I enjoy trips to both Canada and Mexico and with all the new baggage charges and restrictions I have been forced away from one piece rods. I purchased the 2 piece 7 foot rod. I took it to a pond the first day I got it and caught 20 bass. I have been very impressed with the way it casts and it's sensitivity.

I spooled up with Fireline Crystal 14lb. When casting, there seems to be too much friction on the guides causing me to loose casting distance and smoothness on the cast. My cheaper spinning rods perform better.

This rod is excellent for bass. My recomendation is to use lighter line, 6lb-8lb during the cool-cold months and heavier line, 8lb-10lb during the warmer months. To give you an idea I caught a 10lb stripper on 8lb , using the same rod you have. See picImages for this Answer

I have this rod and have a Daiwa Exceller 2500 reel on it. The reel is the older model; 4.7:1 gear ratio so it has plenty of torque. This rod is made to throw heavier baits so I would suggest a reel with plenty of torque and a good drag. I don't have a Shimano reel, but I can recommend BPS Pro Qualifier, Pflueger Supreme and Abu Garcia medium size reels for this rod.Details:

The two piece rods are not telescoping. The one I purchased is 7' obne piece.

The 7' 2-piece rod is not telescoping in the spinning rod, however, in the 7'6" trigger rods (found by searching item number 16373200) are telescoping rods (meaning that they have a retractable butt section).1 of 1
