  • Feather-light 60-million-modulus Powerwall™ IM9 graphite blank
  • Diamond weave carbon fiber wrapped butt section
  • Fuji® aluminum oxide guides
  • Durable clear-coat finish
  • Ultra-premium-grade cork grips
  • PowerHump® handle
  • Full-contact, Soft Touch reel seat
  • Available in travel rod model
Why call them Extreme? The word “Extreme” is somewhat overused these days, so with these rods, we’ve tried to stay true to the official definition, which is (according to Webster’s Dictionary) “exceeding the ordinary, usual, or expected.” We have packed every possible ultra-high-end feature into the strongest, most profoundly sensitive package, and still kept your investment under $100!

Here’s what you get: We start out with an immensely powerful yet feather-light 60-million-modulus Powerwall IM9 graphite blank, then wrap the butt section with a new diamond weave carbon fiber to enhance lifting power. We top the blank with virtually frictionless, mirror-polished Fuji aluminum oxide guides, and we finish the blank with the most durable clear-coat available. The grips are turned from ultra-premium-grade cork, with our exclusive PowerHump handle to aid in balance and enhance fish-turning power. The full-contact, Soft Touch reel seat puts your fingers directly on the blank so you can feel even the softest bite. The result is a fishing rod that is farthest removed from the ordinary, that is anything but the usual suspect, and that far exceeds what you expect from a rod at this price point. By definition, these rods truly are extreme!

PowerHump Handles:
Our specially contoured, premium cork handle design gives you enhanced leverage and an increased sense of confidence during the battle!

Fuji Aluminum Oxide Guides:
Polished to a mirror-like, friction-free finish. Extremely durable; precisely spaced for perfect line flow.

Full Contact Soft Touch Reel Seat:
Lightweight, rock-solid reel seat locks your reel in place, and the blank-thru construction puts your fingers in direct contact with the blank for the utmost vibration transmission.
Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 21 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Impressive I bought this rod to bring on vacation. I needed backbone to pull out big bass from the pads and weeds and to handle the occasional pike. I am pleased to say it has performed well handling 3 to 6 pound bass in pads. This is my first Extreme spinning rod, I have a bait caster. It is great. June 29, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by poor design This is the 10th extreme rod I have bought. I love all of them. This new rod however, is another story. Because of the way the hook holder is installed, if the line is slack it has a tendency to get wrapped around the holder. I'm talking about mono. I don't know if other types of lines do the same thing. I hope they change this design June 18, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by OK rod The rod is nice, and uses very good components seemingly. I do wish that you would go back to a full cork handle in stead of the bifurcated style June 5, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by xps extreme well balanced, a easy keeper. And a Abu Garcia Ora SX rounds it out..great combo! May 7, 2012

This rod is excellent for bass. My recomendation is to use lighter line, 6lb-8lb during the cool-cold months and heavier line, 8lb-10lb during the warmer months. To give you an idea I caught a 10lb stripper on 8lb , using the same rod you have. See pic

The older models with the solid cork handle have an unscrewable butt cap, but the new, split handle models don't.

I have this rod and have a Daiwa Exceller 2500 reel on it. The reel is the older model; 4.7:1 gear ratio so it has plenty of torque. This rod is made to throw heavier baits so I would suggest a reel with plenty of torque and a good drag. I don't have a Shimano reel, but I can recommend BPS Pro Qualifier, Pflueger Supreme and Abu Garcia medium size reels for this rod.

Staff Answer
A:
The 7' 2-piece rod is not telescoping in the spinning rod, however, in the 7'6" trigger rods (found by searching item number 16373200) are telescoping rods (meaning that they have a retractable butt section).
