This is a really nice lightweight jacket. Not the smallest I've seen but light still. The zippered pockets are cool and handy. Great for a tournament fisherman and not too pricy.

I like this vest overall but it looks like I am not the only one to come out to find that it has deployed itself while in storage. I live in N.Calif and It gets hot. After a resent fishing trip I stored my vest in one of my boat lockers, and went into the house. I came out to go somewhere an hour or so later to find my vest inflated and poking out of the storage locker. I don't know if it was heat or water that set it off. I have not used the T- pull to inflate so I am not sure how much pull it take to inflate, I am always careful not to hook it on something when I pull the vest out of the locker. I like it but maybe the auto-inflate is not as great as I thought and one with a manual pull that one could use if needed would be better and cheaper all around.

Only moisture and it converts easily to manual only so spray from the ocean or your paddles or a fish will not cause it to inflate.

If it is in manual mode then all you need to replace is the CO2 cartridge. If use in Auto mode you replace both a yellow button and the CO2 cartridge.Instructions provided are very clear and well writtten and easy to follow.

I'd like the automatic inflator to work while running with my boat, but if I am wade fishing in the surf, I'd like to turn off the automatic feature so that it doesn't unintentionally deploy. I have heard that some jackets allow for this. Does this one do so as well? Thanks.Answers

The cap that connects to the other end of the inflation trigger is different for Auto and Manual inflation but can be easily changed in a couple minutes.There is an interior pocket designed to store the cap but I would not store the Auto cap and the yellow activating button in the vest where they can get wet.
This is a Type III PFD so while it will help in the surf it would not be my first choice.

Yes, the Automatic inflation can be removed. Just a "warning" though if you get ejected out of a boat moving at fast speeds you might not be able to pull the cord if you are incapacitated in any way.A:Â

Well, I haven't done that yet, but the description says that it will not. I have used my previous inflatable in rain and spray without it activating.A:Â
It probably would. If the bobbin gets wet enough to melt, it will inflate. I've also had one, of another brand, inflate just sitting in the boat seat because of the high heat. Very exciting.
