Housed in an easily installed 2" x 3" x 1-1/2" package, this XPS® 12V Phase Charger senses when the alternator output indicates that the crank battery is charged, then an internal 4-amp relay connects the troll and crank batteries in parallel so that the troll battery is charged while the motor is running. When the motor is turned off, and the alternator output is no longer present, the parallel circuit is opened and the troll and crank batteries are isolated for use. All operations are automatic after installation.
This is for 12V systems only.
Note: This charger must be used for boats with an electric start. Two cables hook to the alternator and two to the battery that needs charging. Charging occurs while the motor is running, indicated by a red light.

I bought one of these a number of years ago to keep my trolling battery up when 110v was not available. It always works great,
Yes, the wires can be too short if you have your batteries at both ends of the boat. But with the price of copper wire I would rather the guy that has to run the long cables pays the price and not everyone who has to buy the basic unit.
As for the clicking, I have it from time to time, usually when I have the on board charger plugged in and the batteries are fully charged. I just disconnect the fuse when that happens and no more clicking.

I recently purchased and installed the XPS 12V Phase Charger. Installation was quite easy. I grafted about 5' of additional wire to each of the wires running to the trolling battery. With that accomplished I hooked up the wires to the trolling battery and the cranking battery.
Everything works just fine. It keeps my trolling battery charged and has eliminated the hassle of using a 12v battery charger every evening. Good product. Thanks

I was having trouble keeping my batter charged while running just my electronics on it. Since I have installed this charger, that problem has went away. I can take my clients fishing without having to worry if my electronics are going to work or not.

Very easy to install. You probably will need to run lengths of new wire. Very simple design.

Boats have their usual 12v starter battery so lets say thats for the crank (on the left). Can the trolling motor or good time radio be hooked up to a 12v deep cell battery on the troll(on the righ)since those accesories need a different style of battery? Or does it have to be the exact same kind of battery?I thought this would be a good device to have by keeping the radio on the second battery.Answers

Any style of 12V lead-acid battery that can be charged by alternator output can be charged through the Phase Charger. This includes regular, sealed (maintenance-free), deep-cycle, and AGM batteries. ThanksDetails:Â
I have a 2005 chev, Siverado P/u, How is the altenator connected to the unit and would this instalation be a "turnkey" install or would connector adaptors be neccesary? I have looked at the SurePower battery isolator to do the same as this item but the SurePower requires special connectors, adaptors and some tricky wiring to make the connections to the exciter circuit on the altenator. In principle, the Phase Charge could be used in an automobile. However, automotive electrical systems use a chassis ground, while marine systems use a wired ground. Proper grounding is important for the charge sensor to work correctly. This application has not been tested and not recommended . ThanksAnswers

An alternator output’s ability to charge a battery is more dependent on voltage than current. Charging 12V lead-acid batteries requires 14-15VDC alternator output voltage. If the voltage is sufficient, the alternator output current will determine the charging time. A low-current output will require more time to achieve a full charge. The Phase Charger will work correctly whenever the supplied voltage is sufficient for charging. Thanks!Answers

This is the XPS® 12V Phase Charger.You would connect black leads from phase charger to ground terminal on both crank and troll batteries. Then connect red leads from phase charger to respective positive battery terminals on both crank and troll batteries. See photo below. Thanks

I have this thing hooked up with an on board charger, it keeps blowing the fuse. what could be wrong?

Blowing fuses is an indicator of incorrect wiring. The on-board charger should feed the input of the Phase Charger, into the same place as the alternator current goes. Then the Phase Charger should properly control the charging of two batteries in sequence.Thanks!
