BAD IDEA ALL-AROUND There is a reason Berkley doesn't put weedguards (my son calls them FISH-guards) on their lures. Crappie are not called "papermouths" for nothing. Unfortunately, they are fond of heavy cover. Deal with it. The Roadrunner is by far a superior lure, and the BassPro crappie spin provides some protection from hangups. You pays your money and you takes your choice. February 25, 2015
Great Lure These are great for Walleye and Crappie Pike Bass and any other kind of fishing you want to do. February 27, 2015
Tube Snagger is more like it. this lure can't seem to make up its' mind...is it a jig or is it a spinner? Well in the experience I have had using it....it fails at both. I ended up taking the jig off and hooking it up to a darting type jig head. #no spinner#. The powder coating effects the spinner in a very negative way. Worst of all this lure wins the prize for the most snag prone Crappie Jig I can tie on. One would be better off using a simple micro tube jig if this is the type of presentation they are inclined to cast. I guess if you troll for crappie this might #and I say MIGHT# be an effective umbrella rig jig. But I'm done with them. February 24, 2014
good in certain circumstances I use these after cold fronts and I know the slabs are tight to cover and finicky . The gaurds work for a couple bumps in cover but after that they will get hung up anyway . You difinetly need to check the wire strand every cast even if you don't hit anything. They need to change the gaurds to a single nylon strand or make these a little stiffer. Outside of the way they are intended to be fished they really are nearly as good as roadrunners . The spinners on roadrunners will spin at slower speeds giving roadrunners the nod as better than the non weedless basspro version. If basspro would fix its gaurds and use a little better bearing swivel then these would proably become my near fulltime casting presentation. If roadrunner comes out with a brush gaurd model soon I will be using it if its better. I'm hopeful to improvements from both companies. January 25, 2011
