This was my first baitcaster. I had only a brief intro to them through my Father. That lesson was full of Bird Nests on his old Shimano, though I have no idea what line he had.
I put this Reel on a 6ft MH Lightning Rod from Berkley. I used 65 Pound Power Pro line because I love the 50 on my other rig and I wanted larger line Diameter for easier un-knotting if it was to be an issue. Lastly I put on a 5/8 ounce practice plug.
Reel was set around 8 on the breaks and the backlash control set for a slow drop to the ground. VERY important.
35 cast in a row with OUT BACKLASH. Good distance also. WOW I was really pleased. I am ordering another.

P.S. I secured the line to the aluminum spool making a knot between Two of the holes. I read many due this. The spool was first backed with Two layers of 3M Scotch double permanent sided clear tape (left over from Christmas) before making the knot. I just punched out Two holes in the tape and ran the line through afterwards.

great reel for the price, casts far, minimal backlash, good reliability so far, looks great!. I picked up this reel as a combo with a tourny rod on a sale last month for 59.99 what a steal! Im on a tight fishing budget with the old lady so this was a great option! works great with a 10lb line.

This baitcaster is well worth the money it should be alot more than 50.00 dollars. 5 stars all the way it is so smooth and casts fartrher than most 200 dollar baitcasters! SIMPLY GREAT!!!

This $49 reel performs like $150+ reels. Insanely smooth, casts a mile. You have to make sure to set it up before you cast or you will backlash like crazy, same as any baitcaster. Once set up this reel is flawless. Cant wait to get another one!

I've had this reel for 3 months and its worked perfectly. Tonight while I was fishing on a couple of my casts the handle spun as the line spooled out, then when I engaged the handle and checked it I was able to turn it freely backwards about 1/4 of a turn before it stopped.I took the spool out last night and greased the bearings etc....
Has anyone else had this issue, is it some thing I've messed up when cleaning the reel?
Any help or advice would be appreciated...

it appears to me you have taken this reel apart and have not placed the paul in the right position.take it out ,move it over a quarter of an inch and see if this fixes your problem.if the reel turns backwards even more move the paul the other direction.good luck.

I was fishing in some rain and that may have caused it. Also when I tighten the spool release it does not squeak, but when I loosen it to fit te lure it squeaks very loudly. And it will ocassionaly squeak while reeling in as well.Answers

Use a good reel oil to lubricate the gears and moving parts of the reel. Sometimes, a heavy amount of water on the reel, such as in a good rain, will cause a squeaking sound. A good cleaning and lubrication should help to correct the issue. Refer to your user's manual for the schematics and other details.A:

I like 30lb Spider Wire stealth or the new Spider Wire Flouro-Braid in 30lb or 40lb test. Small diameter and it sinks for cranking with all the strength you need for flippin.A:

Set up the lure then hold the rod out in front of you, then turn off the brake and the lure fall to the ground. Adjust the brake so your lure just barely falls on its own. When you get it set so that your lure is creeping downward at a painfully slow rate, you should be good to go.As far as the actual cast goes, your thumb will eventually learn what it is doing. The key is to place your thumb back on the line right as your lure is about to hit the water.
The reason backlash happens is because the reel is spinning faster than your line is being pulled out. So, if your lure hits the water, it is going to virtually stop pulling line, while your reel is still spinning. Keep this in mind and it will help you judge when to use your thumb and how much pressure to put on the line.

the brakes should be set somewere around 5 to 7... you need to adjust your line tensioner the knob right beside the brakes snug it up a little.. also make sure when the lure is just hitting the water your putting you thumb on the spool to stop the line from slacking... hope this helpsA:
I'm a beginner too. I did the same thing had the brakes set at 10. I found that if I moved it to 3 and held my thumb on the spool a little it worked better. Also I found that casting with a bait cast reel is more arm than wrist. You will still get some back last some times. But that will get better in time as you do it more. good luckA:
I had exactly the same problem with this reel. Finally bought the BPS Extreme reel and can now cast a 1/4 oz lure a mile with no backlash. Take the Tourney Speical back for a refund if it's not too late.A:

Frustrating this has been. I adjusted per the instructions and every cast it bird caged. Physical adjustment was either too strong and no cast, or too weak and bird caged. Magnetic adjustment set at various positions 1 through 10 did not help. Just how are magnets supposed to help slow down an aluminum spool ? Just exactly what is the trick to casting these baitcast reels, because it's not working for me. I gave up trying after 6 bird cages and over an hour of stripping it all out...HELPAnswers

set the reel pressure knob until the bait you are using just slowly drags out line whilst holding the fishing rod parallel to the ground. set magnet to 8/10 setting. cast with light thumb pressure. usually, no thumbing is required with this setting and no backlash occursA:

To get it apart there is a little black botton on the side press it and twist up and when it moves pull outward.

To take this reel apart. 1st unscrew and remove the spool tensioning knob. (Watch out for the bearing in there it may fall out.) Next find the little black release on the magnetic brake side. Push that and turn the side plate at the same time. Remove the plate and then the spool. Now you have access to clean and lube. I don't suggest you break it down any further than that. Just asking for trouble unless you really know what you are doing. Not for you? Then I would have a proffesional clean and lube it for you.A:
If you toss it away I will take it. If you have someone close to you that works on reels ask them for help or service. I bought 2 reels and one was noise and sounded dry, so I sprayed it with a product from Bass Pro and it caused the factory lube to work and it quieted down instantly and I think they are great. Every product made has a lemon out of thousands made, if this doesn't work then contact Bass Pro for possible replacement or credit on another of your choice. Good luck and hope my suggestion works for you, it did for me.

well if the fish are under 20lbs it should be ok but if not the reel dont hold enough line heavy line to keep them from spooling you.a big spinning reel will work also use braided line its tougher than mono.Answers

MOST OF THESE REELS ARE EITHER MADE IN CHINA OR KOREA. AS FOR THIS BAITCAST REEL, IT IS MADE IN CHINA. IN MY OPINION, I BELIEVE THE MORE EXPENSIVE THE REEL IS, IT MAY EITHER BE MADE IN JAPAN OR USA.
