Rated 2 out of 5Â by ILFlyfisher Alright for the price, just not for me!
(Action: Medium; 5'6'') I purchased this for my two young sons. I realized that the it was not the highest quality combo before I purchased it, but I didn't expect much for the price. I did not find the rod to be very sensitive. Thought it seemed cheap yet durable (what you would expect for the price and fine for kids). I was disappointed in the reel. After loading it with line I noticed the spool would turn backwards a considerable distance before the anti-reverse would engage (something I've noticed before with cheap reels). While this is annoying I still thought it was good enough for kids. After one or two trips I noticed the bail would not stay flipped over and that it would not flip over automatically when the reel was engaged. I'm guessing the mechanism that controls this function has broken. I could have dealt with the low sensitivity and the annoying gap before the antireverse but this was too much. I am returning it, but I will replace it with a different model of rod/reel as I do not want to take a chance of this low quality combo breaking again. If you like a quality rod and reel, spend a little bit more. If you just want the bare minimum, this will do.

This rod and reel combo is a great. The reel works smoothly and I've had no problems at all. I like that the rod is in two pieces for transporting.

We use 6 weight on the ultralight combo. Seems to give us a good balance between feel, strength and invisibility. Brand is your preference.A:Â
I would put on about 8-10 pound line.It works well. Just to tell you it gets tangled really easy.
