I have used this type of rod holder mounts before on different boats an they work well. The rod holders that I have are made by Roberts. With this mount the locking nub is a little longer than the Roberts brand. As a result the mount will not allow the rod holder to turn. I used a Dremel tool with a grinding wheel and cut off some of the length of the nub and it works fine. Not really a big deal.

I purchased the side mounts for use on 1 1/4 square railing around a pontoon boat. The spacing between the screws on the mounts do not work for 1 1/4 square u bolts. So I drilled out the holes on the mounts and used some stout zip ties. I only use them for crappie trolling or night fishing and they are working great so far. Just have extra zip ties.

I recently installed 4 of these on the sides of my bass tracker. They work fine, but i would recommend buying a few sheets of rubber at the home improvement store if you plan to use when mounting on a boat. I cut out the rubber to mutch the size of the mount, then cut out a hole in the middle and smaller ones for the screws. Put this between the mount and the boat and the seal has been watertight and working well ever since.
