update I purchased the reel stripper a few years ago because l got tired of taking line of my reels hand over fist. Specially when l have about 24 rod and reels that l use years round. At first glance l thought this would be an other junk drawer item, but l was pleasantly surprised when this little stripper worked as promised. It's been going for the past three years and still going strong! The way around the battery problem is get rechargeable batteries, works great for me. Never used the light, but you never know. All in all, not the best, but works great.Does what l need it to do, and it last. Can't go wrong. March 7, 2010
J.C.R. Great item!!. Stripped over 30 spools, not one malfunction. No gap can be seen between the two small rollers. Have not used the sharpener, bought this to strictly strip line from reels. I run a small reel repair business and this thing is like lightning fast. I would highly recommend this to anyone. JCR June 30, 2006
Great for the money I can't comment on the durability of this, I just got it as a Christmas gift... I can say that I wish I would have bought one of these a long time ago. I have about 20 rod and reel combos, I fish both inshore and offshore saltwater, as well as freshwater for bass and crappie, so I have a wide variety of reels. I used it tonight to strip a Penn 4000 spinning reel, it stripped the full spool in less than a minute. This would have taken me a good 10 minutes doing it by hand the old fashioned way. It's not perfect, it doesn't have very much torque so if the line is cutting in on the line below it or held up some other way, it will stop stripping. I also had a problem with a backing-mono to braid knot, the braid kept getting hung up on the knot and it couldn't pull it off. December 31, 2014
ABOSULTELY HORRIBLE I bought this today and the motor wont spin properly, it goes slow, then stops, I can strip line off my reel by hand four times faster than this stupid thing. also, since the thing wont spin, the hook sharpener wont spin, making the product nonfunctional. will be returning this ASAP! absolutely ridiculous! A:
No it will not, if the line is looped down in the reel carriage. This tool is for getting old line off the reel quickly. I do not take all the old line off, I stop about 3/4 down the spool and using a special knot I tie the two lines together and respool.

The only help this unit will offer for taking out a bird's nest will be to hold the reel in position as you hand strip the line. The battery operated stripper supplied most likely will not eat the bird's nest so you are left to strip it off by hand. If you stop when the nest is gone, the remaining line will be left on the reel.

Yes, just keep the bail closed and loosen the drag and it simply removes the line with no problems.
