I have to admit, this is a fantastic rod for a casting pack rod. I bought the casting and the spinning pack rods two years ago to do some fishing up in Wisconsin and these rods didn't disappoint me at all. I'm now working at a Army Base in Korea and using them here for bass fishing. They're still holding up well and I'll probably buy a couple more since they're so easy to carry around. I highly recommend these rods for folks who can't lug the full-size rods around all the time.

I have 4 of these rods that I carry to Panama every year for peacock bass fishing. We put them to the test and in 6 days of fishing we catch between 900 and 1000 fish. The rods do everything that we ask plus. Great rod from a great company. If you need a super pack rod BUY these.

I now have two of these and couldn't be happier with them. I rig this rod up with a zebco 11 baitcast reel. While I usually wear out the reel after only one season (at $14 bucks, I just get a new one to start each summer) the rod should last for many years.
I use the rod on day hikes into the mountain lakes and creeks in Montana, and the four piece breakdown fits nicely into my pack. I really prefer the baitcast style with the reel metioned above, but it's been very difficult to find a decent pack rod in a baitcast orientation (plenty of options if using spinning or fly, but almost nothing for baitcasting), that is, until I found this rod.
One additional note, the specs on this rod list it as a Medium action, with recommended line weight of 8-17 and lure weight of 1/4 to 5/8; however, I've been using it with 4 lb line throwing spinners of 1/16 and 1/32, and it has performed very well. Most of the trout I catch are in the 10 to 12 inch range, but I have landed larger ones, including a 27 inch monster bull trout.

Cyrano, I measure the rod with a tape measure while it was still in the canvas wrapping, but I pushed the canvas down to the rod ends and it measured 20 inches. Hope that helps...1 of 1
