I have been fishing for a long time, though I don't have a significant amount of money. Most of my rod and reel combos have been "mart" Zebco's and Shimano combos. I was looking at the Megacast #6'6 Medium# vs the Pflueger President combo this Christmas, and decided based on feel, the Megacast felt better, so this is what I asked for on Christmas from my father in law.
I was able to fish with the rod twice before it shattered.
I spooled the reel with 6lb trilene line #rod is rated to 10-17lbs# and while fishing yesterday I got a snag on a branch under the surface of the water. I was trying to fight the line loose, and move to where I might be able to pull it back, and after a couple of good tugs the rod snapped. Now to be clear, it isn't like the tip of the rod broke, the top section of the rod snapped in half 6 inches above where it connects to the bottom half.
In all of my years fishing, even with sub quality $15 combos, I have never seen anything like this. This rod is inacurately rated, and should be 2-4lbs tops. Either that, or be prepared for the rod to break when fishing a higher lb test, while you try to reel in a 10 lb fish!
You would think that at an overpriced fishing store like Bass Pro, a rod that bears their name on it, would be useful for fishing! I guess I will stick with my $10 Zebco rods from now on, or just maybe I will go to the other large Outdoor Store, and try their namesake fishing rod...
Bottom line, if you are looking to throw $40 bucks down the drain, this is certainly one way to do it.

I just bought this for $30. Great for its cost. I haven't used it yet, but I am sure it works great. Extremely light and balanced.

by merman A reel problem
My son uses this reel combo for bass and bluegill. The rod is decent but the reel is garbage. First the pin fell out of the reel handle and I had to fix it with a finishing nail. Next the screw from the string guide fell out (no loctite) and I had to salvage a screw from an old reel. Finally the drag stopped working in the middle of fishing bass today. As soon as he hooked a fish the drag stopped working and you had to hold the line and drag the fish in. I will be taking the reel apart tonight to take a look at it.
