Rated 5 out of 5Â by 5awdust Just what I wanted
A friend sold me on this gripper, after using his
which has a tape and scale. I have a didgital
scale so when I found this a lot cheaper I got it.
This is a lot lighter and easy to use, even if you
get a fish with lock jaw.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by hardwoodtimber Bottom pin broke holding jaws together
Caught a big bowfin and used the grip master II to lift him out of the water. He twisted and tried to roll several times breaking the bottom pin that holds the jaws together. Maybe this item is not quite built heavy enough for the larger aggressive fish. Maybe I had a defective tool. Either way, I guess it is time to fork out the money for a Boga. First purchase from Bass Pro that I am disappointed in. Oh well, not much money lost on this one. Will try to better my quality on next purchase. Bass Pro still rocks!

Works great, holds on to catfish, bullheads and toothy pike.
Does exactly what you want it to do and doesn't let go on it's own.
I can't justify spending a hundred bucks or more on something that is only a bit better when this version does the job like a champ.
The only thing it could use is a float, but instead of buying one I just rang a string through a cut pool noodle.

Pretty close to .44 lbs according to my Rapala digital scale.Answers

will it tear the lip? or hurt it in any other wayAnswers
A:Â
I TRUELY DON'T THINK SO. THE ENDS OF THE GRIPPER ARE ROUNDED TO PREVENT SUCH.A:Â
Usually not.Does not hurt fish any worse than more expensive holders.Top 1000 Contributor
A:Â
No way will it hurt fish as edges are round and no skin is injured.A:Â
It won´t hurt the fish any more than the hook that caught him, but lets face it, he´s being hung by his "lip", it´s gotta hurt some :)A:Â
It did not tear the lip at allTop 50 Contributor
A:Â
It won't tear the fish's lip, but I don't know if it hurts them.A:Â
I don't use it when I have lip-hooked a fish. It is perfect for those deep hook sets that you simply can't get out. It will not harm the fish. I had a bass completely swallow a six-inch worm along with the hook. I removed the hook, recovered the worm and let the bass swim away unharmed.Details:Â
I was wondering if this grip could fit in the top cavity of a hard tray style tackle box.Answers

It fits in both my Planos with plenty of space. It's about a foot long and two inches thick at the trigger.A:Â
ABOUT 11 INCHES. YES, I THINK IT WOULD FIT JUST FINE.A:Â
It is about 10 inches long if the tackle box is it were big then yes but anything small it probably won't fitTop 1000 Contributor
A:Â

I have a Plano that seems to fit your description, It doesn´t fit, but not only for the length of the grip but the width of the metal side handles, I store it at the bottom with other random stuff.Details:Â
Muskie and other fish tend to roll when ypu grip them. I need it to swivel so I wont injur the fish.Answers

A:Â
It doesn't swivel on it's own, but just leave the strap around your wrist and it can roll if it needs to. The strap is made of stretchy shock cord, not a stiff strap.A:Â
No it does notTop 1000 Contributor
A:Â
it doesn't swivel but i use the lanyard and let the gripper go it stays on my wrist and they can do their rollingA:Â
thats true, maybe try some sort of pvc pipe cut to fit around the handle so it can rotate. good point though...A:Â

I don´t know about catfish, but I´ve used it with fish as big as 12-15 lbs, no worries.A:Â
They come in sizes. If you mean a 100 pound flathead...I wouldn't put my hand in its mouth with or without the remover. But for us that catch "normal" catfish you betTop 1000 Contributor
