Design Problem I just purchased it this week and loaded 4 pound test line and went fishing with it yesterday. I caught a fish on the second cast. The reel is poorly desinged and when you load it with line it loads heavy to the bottom and leaves a deep cup at the top. This means that you encounter extra friction as the line comes off the spool when casting and it shortens the distance you can cast. After fishing with it a couple of hours the line evened out some but still leaving too much cup at the top. It works marginally better with heavier lures (1/8oz) than with light lures (1/32 oz). Smoothness of the reel and drag are ok but it is not as free turning as some less expensive options. I bought the size 10 model to use for ultra light tackle crappie fishing. I plan to return the reel the next time I drive near Bass Pro. There are better options for less money. April 6, 2014
Poor Quality I bought this reel thinking I got a good deal on a reel that contained 10 bearings. There weren't any display models in the store to get a feel for the reel's action. All of the reels were sealed in plastic. I wanted to buy the 4000 size but there weren't any on the rack. A store employee checked the inventory and told me that a new shipment had arrived the night before and that he would go to the stockroom and get one. When he returned, he told me that all of the 4000 models were defective and that they would not be sold. I decided to buy a 3000 model. I brought it home, filled the spool with line and noticed that the reel did not fill the spool evenly. I then checked the drag and discovered that the drag did not operate smoothly. Additionally the reel did not turn smoothly and there seemed to be resistance when I first began to turn the handle. I returned the reel the next day. April 14, 2014
Great Buy, smooth, quiet, fun to fish This was a impulse buy, the price got me. Took it fishing Monday, it was very smooth, quiet, it's now my fav spinning reel. Casted well, bale works smoothly. Liked it so much I got home and ordered another via catalog. Me and my fishing buddy had older reels with bales that were hanging up, this one was much better from the box. Loses one star, the handle feels different, I'll get used to it. April 17, 2014

Line Lay on spool

Details:
addressed to "OldCrappieFisherman"

Remove the spool and see if there are any washers (spacers). If so remove one or more to adjust the depth the spool sits on the shaft. That will put the line on the reel evenly.

A:
No. I bought two of these reels. Very nice reels for the price and no issue with the way the line spools on as someone else mentioned.
