Stacey King,
12-Time Bassmaster Classic® Qualifier

The Extreme Spinning Reel has become our workhorse, the reel to rely on day in and day out. On guide trips, Stacey King puts Extreme reels into clients' hands anytime the situation calls for spinning gear, and he says that won’t be changing anytime soon.

The amazing thing is that we’ve been able to keep the Extreme Reel's price so reasonable, because performance-wise, you get a lot more reel than you pay for! The construction is solid all through: tough one-piece aluminum frame with sealed sideplates; super-efficient compact gearbox; machined-aluminum spool (part of our innovative Mag Spool Technology™ package). We’ve also upgraded the Extreme's drag system, going to our Carbon Fiber Sealed Drag—it’s now smoother, more powerful, and more durable than ever. Other features include a five-bearing system with stainless steel ball bearings and Powerlock™ instant anti-reverse; brass pinion gear; zinc-alloy drive gear; stainless steel main shaft and bail wire; machined-aluminum handle with Soft Touch knob. Includes a FREE spare aluminum spool.

Line recovery in inches per handle turn.

I have the EX40 and just love it. I now have three of these and one is the new version. They cast a mile with the wider spool and are very smooth. I can't imagine anyone that uses spinning reels that wouldn't have at least one of these.

The max drag for these reels would be anywhere between 19.5lbs to 22lbs depending on which reel you purchase. Thank you.

Since fluorocarbon is a bit stiff, if I were you I'd get the BPS 50 because it gives the line some room and won't get tangled often.

I would recomend the EX 40 for the spool diameter. This reel handles braided line very well.

The 40 is more than enough reel, but if you want 12# and want more line on the spool - get the 50

I assume you meant 6 foot rod, and 6 inch rod !
I only use the "40" size for everything, feels good in my hand, holds plenty of line.

The 10 or the 20 would be good. It really depends what size line you are putting on. 6# and lower - get the 10. Higher than 6# -= go with the 20

It depends what your fishing for as with bass, sandbass croppie or what ever. If your thnrowing crankbait or spinnerbait id order the extreme 5-4-1 and if im fishing worm or si=oft plastic Id order either a 6-3-1 or 7-1-1 for faster speeds.

im looking for an all around reel to fish for bass 2-7lb range that i can also rig up for carp/cats. i think i may have made a mistake buying a 5'6 med rod since im seeing more people seem to go with 7' for bass is this overkill?

Get at least a 6'6" but the 7' Medium action is awesome... more control over the fish. I think you will have a hard time balancing this reel with a 5'6" rod.

I have a 7ft rod with ex40 reel on the rod and believe me that is not an over kill what so ever . Your 5-6 is too small I think in most cases. I think you'd be happier with the 7 ft do to further casting and more horse power.

I have a 6' med hvy B.P.S. Extreme rod with an EX40 reel on it that I use for cat's & stripers. I think for carp & cats you might wanna use at least a 6' rod. The reel is fine though.

I use my extreme with a 61/2 foot 2 piece Shakespear Ugly Stick and the combo is excellent. I need the 2 piece because I put it inside and behind the seat of my extended cab 1998 S10. I use this combo for everything from small crappie to an 11lb. catfish I caught last week. Many medium size bass also. It is a very versatile setup.

It'll handle them just fine, depending on the size reel you choose, however, be sure to give the reel a thorough "bath" (clean/lube job) after use in the salt!

I just bought two extreme spinning reels size #20 & I think they are perfect for bass fishing not too small or too big, they have
plenty of power for bigger fish & are very smooth operating reels with good drags & very little line twist. Very important to me.

I have 2 of the 40's. They are good bass fishing reels. The 20's would make a good pairing with a light rod for crappie fishing or trout.

The 20 size reel is a super bass reel . Although I don't have one in the extreme model I do have a 10 in the extreme and a 20 in the Pro Qualifier . The 20 size is perfect anything larger is just too much . Only would go bigger if you plan on using flipping jigs or punching matts . I would suggest that a bigger spinning reel is not the best for these either . A baitcast reel would be the best for flipping and punching matts . So the 20 will be just the ticket .

When putting on line and your line starts to twist turn the spool over and that sould stop or correct the line twiist and if your on the water let some of your line out and it should untwist by doing that.

The best way to put "bulk" line on a spinning reel is to disregard what the manufacturers say and use a large screwdriver or other rod shaped tool through the hole of the bulk spool and thread the line so that it comes off the BOTTOM of the bulk spool and onto your reel until 1/8" away from your reels spool lip.

I made a bolt to wind the line on with my cordless drill. Just take a small bolt hat is the same size as the spool shaft. cut the head off and flatten two sideds to fit the slot with a dremel tool. Thread two nuts on the bolt to hold the spool

Ok lets get started here. First run line through the rod eye closest to the reel and tie on to the spool . Set your line spool directly on the ground on one of the flat sides . Start spooling and if the line is twisting as it comes off the spool flip it over to the other side . When you have it right the line will flow easily as you fill your reel . Use two fingers to apply tension to the line as you fill it . If out on the lake and you see that you line is twisted up on your spool then there is a quick remedy . While idiling in forward gear cast your lure out the back of the boat and let enough line out that all of the twist is out . Your lure will need to be on a swivel for this to work . No swivel no straight line . Hope that helps you out .
