At under 6 ounces, the Bass Pro Shops Extreme Light Baitcasting Reel is the lightest reel in its class, but retains all the features that make our Extreme Baitcaster one of the most popular reels in the history of fishing. The Extreme Light is extremely compact, yet packs in maximum power, incredible smoothness, and gives you the same advantages as other super-lightweight baitcasters priced hundreds of dollars more. The aluminum frame cradles a machined A6061, ported v-spool that’s double-anodized and finished in a dark gunsmoke color, then secured in place by lightweight and strong carbon black composite sidecovers. With 7 stainless steel ball bearings plus Powerlock instant anti-reverse, it provides a smooth, powerful cranking force; and the magnetic cast control helps prevent overruns.  The aramid fiber/A7075 aluminum alternating drag washers (2 of each) smoothly exert pressure on hard-fighting fish, and the super-light carbon fiber handle with EVA knobs gives you plenty of cranking leverage.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Greatly Disappointed When I first saw this reel I could not wait to use it. I have several of the old Extreme reels that they used to sell in an 05 size and call them lite. A couple of them need replacing and I thought I finally found their replacements. Returned the first one of these I purchased. About every 5th cast resulted in a backlash and it sounded like something was grinding when free spooled. The second reel was not much better. It seemed there was just no way to tune this reel. I have been throwing bait casters for years and have never had this much trouble with a reel. I tried using it a few more times and finally gave up. Kept trying to force myself to like the reel. Returned the reel and am going to try the Pro Qualifier as replacements. March 29, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by not the best Purchased the light last yr. And like few other reviews have trouble w/backlashes. I have 4 of the older extreme reels and would Highly recommend them, this one not so much. It is smooth but not great for casting, use mine for flipping now and it works good for that. Rated 1 out of 5 by Overruns bad I've got 5 BPS Extreme reels 5 years old or older, 4 of the metallic green/gold reels, and 1 of the older blue ones and I absolutely love them all. I can cast a country mile even into the wind with no wadding and they are smooth. I bought them all for $59.99 on sale. For the price, they can't be beat. One of my oldest reels (not BPS) finally grenaded so I came here in search of a replacement and found this "new" Extreme light . I saw how light it was and promptly bought it and put it on my Dobyns 703c that I use for t-rigs and small spinners and swimmers. Got to the lake and properly dialed it in only to have it wad on the first cast. Dug it out and cast again only to wad it all over again. All while the bait is in flight. Spent half the morning fighting it then the levelwind broke. Took it back and exchanged for a new one and while nothing broke, it would not cast anything under 3/8oz without an overrun no matter how I adjusted it. No wind at all either. Something is not right with the cast control system design so I'm getting my money back on it. Too bad because on my Dobyns, this rig is sick light. BPS should put the older duel cast control system on this. Why fix something that wasn't broke? October 25, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by best 80 bucks spent Thus tell is predict for all of my needs.super smooth and can cast a mile. Super light and small profile to fit perfectly in my hand. The only wrong with it is that there is a limit to home much line you can put on it. I tried to force on 200 yards of 10 pond test and it just wouldn't go. I maybe foot 170 yards on it and that's more than what i need. October 14, 2013

The Pro Qualifier has dual braking which will give it a little more cast control for someone that may need help with preventing backlashes. The Extreme Lite is lighter weight. Both are good reels. If I were finesses fishing with smaller jigs, spinner baits, crankbaits ect….I would lean towards Extreme Lite. If I were power fishing with big cranks, spinnerbaits with big blades, throwing jigs into nasty cover I would lean Pro Qualifier.

Except for a problem with the anti reverse bearing the Pro Qualifier reel is a far better reel then the Extreme Lite Reel. Cast much better and is a lot smoother then the Extreme Lite. Love the weight of the Extreme lite. You should make a Pro Qualifier Carbon Lite reel.

Not near the quality. I have the Pro Qualifier Tournament edition black reel from a couple years ago. Much much smoother by far, like butter. This Extreme Light is a nice finesse reel though, but could be a bit quieter on the cast & retrieve.
