If you’ve avoided baitcasters due to bird’s-nests, limited distance and accuracy, time lost to hour-long detangling tasks, and even on-the-lake re-spooling, you can finally cast your frustrations aside!

Exclusive patented anti-backlash technology--the Enigma Smart Cast is the closest thing to a backlash-free baitcaster ever developed. Color-coded and spring-loaded, the pins adjust at a finger’s touch—and now, the most popular settings can be applied without removing the sideplate. And once tuned, Smart Cast provides smooth, trouble-free casting for any bait, even in adverse wind conditions. 3 spring-loaded, red brake pins contact the inner ring which controls the spool shaft for precise, automatic deceleration at the end of the cast. 4 spring-loaded, white brake pins contact the outer spool ring for precise, automatic acceleration control during the beginning of the cast.

Backlashing a properly tuned Enigma is not easy. You almost have to nosedive your lure to get an overrun. Even in a crosswind, beginning casters can hit their spots cleanly! That’s because Smart Cast operates intuitively, with no wasted energy. Lure speed equals spool speed—so when your lure hits the water, the spool stops—without looping over.

Great as a first baitcaster. Even better for the experienced angler! The Enigma is optimized for all skill levels. As a learning tool, it has no equal…and as your casting skills evolve, you can simply turn Smart Cast off gradually. Either way, you’ll be fishing a baitcaster equipped with our full performance package: a 1-piece aluminum frame, double-anodized-aluminum spool, 8-bearing system with double-shielded stainless steel ball bearings and Powerlock instant anti-reverse, aluminum Recurve handle and drag star, padded thumbar, and a powerful drag system. All at a price that blows other so-called anti-backlash performance reels out of the water!

Exclusive Anti-Backlash Design… Tournament-Grade Performance:
The only baitcaster made for problem-free fishing at every level. Keeps your lure in the strike zone virtually 100% of the time!

Recurve Handle and Drag Star:
Strong, lightweight aluminum. Maximum leverage when battling heavy fish!

Double-Anodized, Drilled Aluminum Spool:
Lightweight and precisely balanced—the perfectly-designed spool for long, smooth, trouble-free casting.

A:
it mainly depends on the type of fishing you do. crankbaits/spinnerbait? flipping/worming? theres 3 main types of ratio's you will see 5:4:1 6:3:1 & 7:1:1 the lower the first number the slower the reel retrieve the 5:4:1 is best for craikbait/spinnerbait the 6:3:1 or in some cases 6:4:1 are the best all around reel the 7:1:1 or 7:0:1 are the fastest and mainly used for flipping or frog fishing anything that requires you to get the fish out of cover quickly i hope this helps you

Staff Answer
A:
Choose a reel with a low gear ratio if using crankbaits or deep diving crankbaits. A medium gear ratio for lipless crankbaits and some spinnerbaits. The highest gear ratio for burning crankbaits or spinnerbaits and flippin' or pitchin.

Choosing a line is a matter of personal preference. Fluorocarbon lines are less visible in the water, have a faster sinking rate and are extremely durable but twice the cost of monofilament lines.

A:
This is depended on the settings that are employed on the reel as well as some of the abilities of the user, however, as a general rule of thumb the lightest bait that the baitcaster would probably be able to throw is in the 1/8-3/16 ounce for most users.

We do not recommend using freshwater reels in saltwater because it will dramatically reduce the life of the reel. Thank you!

the great thing about the enigma is theres extra brakes that the pro qualifier does not have and once you get good enough with it you can back off on them the down fall with that is theres more moving parts and chance for greater risk but please dont get me wrong its a great reel i personaly own both of these reels and both are wonderful then enigma is more gear towards the beginner hope this helps in your decision

Hey I have a johnny Morris black carbon real and it is awesome I wouldn't trade it for a chonarch it is a sweet reel u even get up to 14 max drag pounds and a better selection to choose from on the style of reel. And for just thirty more dollars u will be doubling the dependability of reels. But if I had to choose between the two I'd go with the enigma just because it is your first reel and it has back lash technology

Get the pro qualifier. Its as smooth as anything i've ever used and it never backlashes when its set correctly. It's a tough reel that'll last ya a long time.

Get the Gold BPS Carbonlite reel. It cast as sweet as a $270 Shimano Chronarch and is hard to backlash "birdsnest". Birdsnest is what turns off most people new to bait casting reels. The carbonlite adjusted correctly is almost impossible to birdsnest. A VERY SWEET reel indeed. I promise you, you will have no regrets with this reel.
