common defect???? I bought 2 of these Crappie Maxx Slab Grabber Rod and Reel Baitcast Combos for my Dad for Father's Day. He so liked the present he wanted to go fishing that afternoon. I am sorry to report that both rod tip were broken before the afternoon was over, and there was no abuse involved. Both rod tips broke about 2 and a half inches below the tip of the rod. {attached is a picture) The Plus factor is that now that I have repaired the tips... it is really hard to tell that couple inches are missing from the rod.... now if these tips hold up we will still be happy with the purchase, I repaired this by heating the tip with a cigarette lighter and removing the tip from the broken piece of rod..... then used some 19 gauge steel wire and glued the tip on the wire (see attached picture) and the wire inside the rod....Used a clear fingernail polish to add a coat of protection.. It is a real easy repair...So keep up with that broken piece. on a side note, neither my dad nor I like the reel that comes with this combo.... and as I wasn't sure about the bait casting reel, I had also bought a Crappie Maxx cx750 and we both love it!! But this is probably just a matter of preference. June 23, 2011
Great Crappie Combo This is a GREAT Combo!! I would compare it to a B&M - Uncle Buck's rod. The one thing I look for in a crappie rod is BALANCE. And this combo is very balanced with this reel. Which is important being out on the water all day snagging Lips. As far as the tips braking, I've been fishing this rod for 3 months and have caught over 500 fish with it, so they must have fixed there problem. I love this Combo and so will you. February 29, 2012
great deal I bought the 9 footer before going on a crappie fishing trip last month. The weather was bad but I caught significantly more fish than the rest of my group and 85% were caught on this rod. Very sensitive in seeing bites. Never had a problem with the pole or reel. The negative comments about the reels are from non fisherman. Its obvious that it is not a casting reel from the moment you pick it up. But I had great luck using it for drifting. Last weekend I caught a 4lb catfish on it as well. It would be a 5 star but I dont like the drag setup on it. April 12, 2013
