Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Rod! Bought two of these and they're by far my favorite rods. Great sensitivity and perfect for crappie. I met my limit nearly every day I fished and I know this rod made the difference in not missing the smallest hit. I HIGHLY reccomend this combo - and for the price it cannot be beat! August 19, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Set-up Bought just the reel 2 years ago and has worked great, bought the combo this spring and have had no problems at all. April 17, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for Crappie I bought the 6'6" model and put 4 lb test on it. It's sturdy yet light weight and smooth. Very good quality. I use Abu Garcia bait casters and Pfleuger spinning reels and I'm happy to add this to my collection. It's very good looking as well. March 18, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 can't wait.... Just got this rod/reel last week. Looks and feels great cant wait to get out and use it... March 16, 2013

I spooled mine with 6 lb Stren- as I was fishing mainly piers and felt I needed a little extra strength if I nneded to pull a fish up 15-20 feet from the water. It worked well... casting was easy with good distance using 1/2 oz DOA's or live shrimp w split shot in Florida saltwater.

Look at the power, line weight, and lure weight. These will all be different and should drive which pole you buy. I use this pole for crappie only so I went with the ultra light tip, 4/160 lbs line weight, and lure Weight: 1/32 - 1/4 oz.

combo rod selection help

Details:
I don't fish often, but this one has pretty good reviews and seems similar to one I borrowed from a friend over the weekend. Could anybody give me some examples of what type of fishing is best for each rod available in the combo? Thanks for any info!

A:
All of these combos are good for blue gill, crappie and even brim...these are considered panfish. The length of the rod is the difference in the 3 combos offered. The longer the rod the longer you will be able to cast your line. If you like to bass fish you might want to consider a different combo. I would get this combo for crappie and buy another for bass. Having two rods is a good idea any way and at the price BPS sells the nice rods for why not have 2. 4lb line is good for this combo.

the UL/L are best for panfishing, while the ML will handle both panfishing and some bass action with light tackle.

you'll usually get about 125-150 yds. on it. you may go thru several spools during the early spring season, when crappies are hitting hot and heavy. i like having an extra spool during this time.

A:
There are 3 lengths available 4'6'' and 6'6''. I don't remember the 3rd but I bought the 6'6''. The longer the rod the more distance you get out of your cast.

I'm assuming that the rod length is in the model number (46 is a 4 foot 6 inch rod and so on). Is that correct?
