besides crappie cranks, I also like to use tubes on a 1/16oz jig head. I was wondering if this rod will cast the 1/16 jigs well or if I should stick with the heavier cranks for this and get a light spinner for the jigs??

Definitely go spinning gear for anything under 3/8 oz. You will ultimately be unhappy with any baitcaster system unless you spend $500-$700 or more and even then they still will not be as good as a spinning rig of say only $100 or more . Trust me on this . Go ultra light for these tiny lures . Good luck and tight lines.

No this reel is not available in left hand . The Bass Pro Extreme reel is the most affordable low profile reel offered in a left hand version at $79.99 reg. price but goes for $54.95 on sale about 2-3 times a year . Also the Abu Garcia BCX round reel goes for $59.99 and is offered in a left hand version . As far as I know these are the least expensive two reels that come in left hand that Bass Pro offers . My brother has the left hand BCX's and he loves them . I have the Extreme reels in the 05 size in right hand versions ( not available in the left hand in this size ) and I love them . I would bet that the 10 size Extreme reels offered in left hand versions would be every bit as nice of a reel . Both of these reels have metal frames as opposed to the graphite frame on the Mighty Lite . I have both the Mighty Lites and the Extremes and for crappie I'm very happy with both but promise you that the Extreme reels will definitely outlast the Mighty Lites . When I buy them I buy the Extremes when on sale and the Mighty Lites if I need one right now and the Extremes aren't on sale . I bought one of each in the last year not as replacements but to have additional reels handy when guiding . My original purchases of both types ( the Extreme's and the Mighty Lites ) was about 4 years ago and again 2 and half years ago and all of them are still performing flawlessly . Hope that helps you in some way . Good luck and tight lines !
