It works......but Finish is ok for garage, but ....there are ruff edges that were splintered by crosscut saw and not sanded enough to smooth out. There is padding on the inside of the rod holes but .....it appears to be some sort of thin tape on material, not a thicker padded felt which would have been nice. It will hold 11 fresh water size rods and reels but.....it's difficult to get larger inshore saltwater rigs on and off with out knocking other rods out of the "J" shaped rod tip holder portion. A templet is provided to help determine where the holes for mounting should be drilled but....the templet did not match up exactly. (One of the mounting brackets on the rod holder was not installed correctly). The holes drilled for the mounting screws MUST BE EXACT, so check to see that the templet matches exactly to the brackets on the holder pieces. Make adjustments if needed before you drill. The rod holder is not perfect, but.....it does provide an out of the way home for most of my rods. It's probably worth the $20.00 bucks. (I think I saw the same rod holder in another sporting goods catalogue for $36.00). May 26, 2014
Nice rack! Very nice rack, wasn't expecting much for $20 but the finish is almost too nice for my garage. Very nice item, would highly recommend it. April 22, 2014

It's made from wood, probably fir. Yes, it could be mounted horizontally. The holes you drill in the wall for the screws must be spaced exactly. The templet provided on mine did not line up with the brackets on the holder so check before you drill. Also suggest you mount to wall studs.
