Bass Pro Shops CatMaxx Baitcast Reel is built like a tank to overpower gigantic catfish, even in swift current using heavy line and big bait. The one-piece aluminum frame is the foundation—it houses a high-capacity, forged aluminum spool that is double-anodized for long-term durability. The lightweight aluminum sideplates house the high-strength brass gearing and a 4 bearing system with Powerlock instant anti reverse. A magnetic braking system is adjustable via an external dial to ensure long casts without overruns. The drag system is a stack of 3 carbon fiber and 3 Teflon discs for smooth and powerful function. A bait clicker switch lets you hear when the bait has been taken.

Rated 4 out of 5 by GREAT REEL I use this reel for Muskie fishing and I must say that it casts smooth and the set up for lures is quick and easy. It has no problem handling the big guys I have cast this reel at least 300 times now over the span of 3 weeks and have not had any issues with it as of yet other than a few backlashes that I attribute to operator error and the fact that it's just going to happen. I did not give this a 5 star because I have not owned it long enough to give it that kind of rating yet. August 15, 2014

Rated 2 out of 5 by Very disappointing purchase ! ok so first of all i owned 2 of the previous model catmaxx bait cast reel combos . they were very good casting and retriving reels but had a couple plastic parts on them that did break one being the spool brake but did not affect performace . i owned them for probably 13 years . so the new model came out with the improved metal parts instead of plastic . so i bought 2 new combos on 11ft rods . first thing i noticed they do not cast very well at all even with all the brakes backed all the way off . the second thing i noticed was they both made this weird noise every couple cast is was like something was loose . sounded bad . they did retrieve good tho and the reel was made decently . but i did return them and bass pro was great about it no ? asked i went with a new garcia c3 with the catmaxx 11ft rod great rods check them out ! i would not purchase these unless you are on a very tight budget . Rated 4 out of 5 by Best Reel for the price I run a four boat fresh water charter service specializing in Hybrid Stripers and Blue Cat Fish. We fish over 500 trips per year and have tried almost every reel on the market and for the money this is the best reel we have used. The drag is smooth, when the spool tension is set correctly the reel casts great, and the bait clicker is easy to operate. Plus it outlast reels twice as expensive. March 16, 2014

A:
65 pound braid is about 16 pound mono sized, the reel manufacture reccomends 17 pounds of mono at 170 yards so you should put on 6-8 pound mono backing just 20 yards then buy a 150 yard 65 pound test and top it off and it should be fine. Always back with light weight mono that will help a lot.

A:
Both have near the same gear ratio, anti reverse action, magnetic brakes. The Abu Garcia 700IC3 has a line capacity of 20/270, the Catmaxx line capacity is 17/170. The 700IC3 weighs 19.9 oz the Catmaxx weight is 12.5. Max drag on the 700IC3 is 17#, Catmaxx is 15#.
