Rated 4 out of 5 by I like The price is cheap, but they function as advertised. What I love most about this combo is the back-bone of the rod, and the distance I can cast. I have 30lb braid on the reel and I can easily, or accidentally, toss a 2oz sinker, leader, and bait 35+ yards. December 10, 2011
Rated 2 out of 5 by Cat Buster I bought 2 of these for a fishing trip I had planned on the Mississippi river. One of the two broke in the first hour of fishing. The lever that keeps the reel from spinning backwards broke. I took it back and BPS gave me my money back. I plan on spending more on the the replacement. The other one seems to work ok. It has a year warranty so we will see. October 28, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by cat buster this is a awesome combo, i got two when i went to bsp, i catch 30-65 pound blue cats. i first started out with the zebco 808 and 888, but they didnt hold up so well to the casting and line compacity that i wanted and needed. i took theses combos ( cat busters 10foot ) and i put 65 pound braid from power pro and a 3oz weight on it and casted out with cut bait and i didnt think this thing would ever stop it was maybe 80 yards or more. i was the talk of the lake that day i also reeled 3 blues weighting 33.9, 51.2, and 63.4 every fish was caught with this combo, no problems total control of the fish. A catfishermen needs insurance when they go out fishing for cats well fellows this is it this is your insurance get it get two when you do you will see. April 10, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Exactly what i wanted!! I was looking to replace one of my old fishing rods, so i did a little searching and found this one. Reviews looked good on it so i got it. Came decently fast, but i paid the slow shipping. Was exactly what i was expecting, i got the 10'. Went out on the water that weekend and launched it out there. See i fish off the dock since i don't have my own boat yet. And well over here the boat rentals season doesn't start until April. And to get some catfish i need a little distance. Boy did this give me some distance, and started catching some right there. Nothing huge, but definitely was worth the wait. Action was smooth, easy to use. I would say a solid reel and good if you want to make some distance in your casting. Would recommend to anyone who likes to catfish :) March 11, 2011

    General fishing performance?

    Details:
How would this combo perform for general non-cat fishing, including bass, trout, and crappie? What is the range of lure weights on the 7’ MH combo?

This combo is not for fast retrieve casting like you would when fishing for bass and trout, a little heavy duty for that type of fishing.

There is nothing wrong with the line that it comes with . Maybe the area that you are fishing is rocky or has a lot of structure that could be damageing the line

Its defintely pretty stiff and has slow action . The cat buster combo I bought comes with a min. of series 500 spinning reel . Maybe its even a little heavier. No bait runner on it .

This combo doesn't have a bait clicker, and I don't think I'd use any sinker more than 2 ounces. Maybe 4, but like I said in my review, the rod is so flimsy, I don't think you'll have much luck casting with so much weight on there. It's a good cheap combo for using night crawlers and chicken livers in relatively calm waters with a 1-2 ounce weight (or less). Good luck and take care!
