Canoe motor mount
The mount fit my Old Town 158 Canoe great. The mount is stury enough for my 54lb. thrust trolling motor. I have always trusted Bass Pro (BP) for all my fishing needs. So why not buy the mount also. It came in a timely manore and a resonable price. When it came I installed it and low and behold. "MADE IN CHINA" Really!!!! Can't Bass Pro find an American made stuff as simple as a canoe mount? If I had know it was made in China I wouldn't have purchased it. I am just a little PO'd. I am going to question my purchased from BP for now on. BP wants Americans to buy thier products so why don't they buy American?????

If it will fit my old Golden Eagle 14' fiberglass,
it will fit anything.
Appears well made,,,time will tell.
Now for a camo paint job and I'd be ready for the river.

Not Compatible with Coleman Tram X Canoes
This item will not work with Coleman Tram X canoes that have the square stern. It is too short.

I used this mount on my Old Town Canoe w/55# thrust electric motor with no problem all last season. Quick on off with the hand screws makes this a very convenient accessory.

I'm guessing yes, but does anyone know for sure? Can you mount the bracket so the motor can go on either the left or right side? Being right-handed, I think I would want to have the motor on my right, not on the left as it would be as shown in the photo on the website.
I have a brand new long shaft, Honda 2HP outboard mounted on my 16 ft. Fiberglass Old Town Katahdin. The mounting bracket I am using is the Old Town bracket sold here. My problem is, when I go at a little faster rate of speed the engine shaft is causing a "wake" that then goes up the wall of the canoe and over the gunnel. The engine only weighs 26 lbs and my boat has a fairly flat bottom and sits high out of the water. How can I prevent this?
Same problem with my 2.5hp yamaha on 18' Grumman. Answer was simple. a piece of thin pliable plastic such as that from a 5 gal pail, cut to fit a 2ft long spray shield and attached with duct tape. worked like a charm.
Why not just attach the motor to the transom of your rowboat? The boat is most certainly set up for that purpose. Unless you mount the bracket far forward, you would not be able to span from gunwale to gunwale, necessary for stability. Would not seem like that would be a productive place from which to drive the craft.
