Good bang for the buck
As far as quality goes, you're getting what you pay for. It's built well enough to handle moderate neglect/abuse for a good while from the average weekend warrior and will probably last that guy 10+ years until it ends up in a garage sale. For a pro, he could nitpick the details that could make it better, and the overly abusive will find a way to break it; but let's be honest, are any of us pros or rough-handlers, and if so, why are we considering this? I think this is right around the high/mid range for what the average fisherman needs. And for that, I'd say it's got some really neat features similar to much more expensive rigs, and quality that makes dropping a buck forty not so painful. Oh yeah, this thing is LIGHT! Like space-age light. I got the medium and the action is somewhere in the middle of medium and med/heavy. The only actual gripe I can come up with is that the centrifugal brakes seem redundant: there's the internal brakes that operate at high spool speed (normal) and the magnetic friction adjustment (also normal) but then an extra low-spool-speed centrifugal brake, which to my non-professional mind seems redundant with how I use the friction adjustment. My gripe: too much adjustability for a reel in a non-pro price range. Leave that kind of tweaking to guys that need that much adjustment. Other that that, I think it's an awesome combo that will be a workhorse of mine for many years.

well i bought this combo before reading reviews. I have not had any problems from it myself. Have caught at least 40 bass and one or two 7 plus lbs. Hopefully i just got a good one.

unlike the other reviews, I hate the rod! The stupid micro guides inserts fall out while using it. when working a bait it will hear a clicking sound and it will be the guide flopping around on the line. I have had very little problems with the reel, but much prefer the pro qualifier. Do not buy the rod. you can buy the reel but get these rods off the market.

Reel is junk
The guide on the reel is made out of plastic. After using it for about 2 weeks the plastic will wear down causing the guide to stay to one side and bunching your line on the one side. The rod is nice. The Reel needs some major improvements. Save your money and if your looking for a nice combo in this price range stick with the Johnny Morris Carbonlite series.
