Rated 4 out of 5 by 104 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Works well, but cheaply made I got this combo because it was affordable and I had heard it was a good setup. Out of the box, so to speak, it was a nice little combo. It spooled easily, once the magnetic system was set up properly backlash was minimal, and I could crank big ol' crankbaits with it. That being said, after about 4 trips out, and about 15 bass, none of which were over 3 lbs, the rod tip decided to break off above the second guide. This fish on the line was 3/4 of a pound! I was baffled! Also, the side-to-side even spooler broke. The little cap that presses it into the grove so that it moves cracked(cheap, this plastic) and it will not set into the groove to spool properly. I'd spend a little more on something else if I could do it again... September 16, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Mega Good I got this Rod & Reel combo around Christmas time so i've had it for about 7 months and used for about 3 or 4. This is my first bait caster and I am very happy with it. To start off on the reel, it is a very nice reel. It reels very smooth, barely backlashes, easier to use then other bait casters, and it looks real slick. I give the reel a 5 star for what it is. The rod however isn't as good as the reel, the cork handle is really nice and all but I don't like how it responds compared to the fiberglass rods. It doesn't seen to durable, it hasn't broke but it is bent pretty good so I guess its better then it breaking. I'll give the rod a 3 1/2 star compared to other rods like this and around its price range. SO overall I am satisfied with this product and it is really good for learning how to use baitcasters. I am giving this combo an overall of 4 stars :) August 2, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Horrible This Rod and reel was the worst purchase i ever made. The reel is cheap and birdnests very easy. July 28, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by mega.cast this is a very durable rod. the casting action is very nice. the reel is very easy to set up but one reel is starting to act up and by that i mean its a little sticky on reeling in, its only been used maybe fifteen times, minor service may help the problem. this recent purcase is my second combo and it has no problems. nice combo set for the money!! I recently bought this combo with a 7' med-heavy rod. Once you get it tuned in, it's fool proof. I'm running 30 lb Power Pro braided line and throwing 1 1/2 ounce swimbaits with ease. You cant go wrong with this combo. I hope this helps. Goodluck and FISH ON!!!

Great combo but the reel was spent after about 3 months of use. The rod is bullet proof. I fish the same type of water as you and use 12 lb. fluorocarbon

You can purchase the left handed model or the right handed. They do not make a model where you can switch up the retrieve. Hope that helps.

The reel feels and looks like it is made out of high-density plastic, but the tag says graphite. The spool is made out of machined aluminium.

Not sure exactly how much but i use 10lb mono and it will hold more than enough. I have not had any issues with the amount.

A:
In my opinion, no. It is a bait casting combo. I have never done flipping with this combo without getting a bird's nest mess. I use it to cast into the weeds from a distance from my boat. I love this combo where I re-learned how to baitcast once again, I had been using strickly spining gear. Now I use both, however, when I change from spinning to bait casting I must remember to put my thumb on the line when I cast.

I'm new-ish to fishing and wonder if this would work for trout fishing the MH rod using 12/14lb fused line. If theres a better rig to use please say. Thanks!

Answer this Question

Answers

A:
I would go with a medium rod for lake trout with 10lb monofilament or fluorocarbon depending on the body of water and what I'm using.
For river/stream trout I would use an ultra-lite setup with 4lb mono.

A:
In my humble opinion I would not use a bait caster while trout fishing. Usually the lures are too light. If I were you I'd get a good spinning reel. Can't go wrong with a good spinner while trout fishing.

Rod power vs action

Details:
The description says the action is either M or MH, but I'm pretty sure they mean power, not action. Can someone confirm what the power AND action is for these rods? Thanks!

This thing is a beef stick and has plenty of power. I would have to say its more medium than medium heavy.

We have this correct. The action of a rod, sometimes referred to as "power" determines how much effort it take to get the rod to flex.

A:
If you want to reel using your left hand (meaning holding the rod with your right hand and using your left on the handle), then you need a left-hand retrieve.
