Nice But design Flaws Excellent winch mechanically. Before having 1 year, the handle fell off. Handle should be secured with bold and self-locking nut, which is what I did that to fix the problem. Checked the 3 other nuts and found them loose. Replaced with self-locking nuts. If I ever purchased this winch again, I would replace the parts listed above before using. Other than the problem listed above, this winch is the easiest and smoothest winding winch I've ever owned. July 22, 2007
Love it My orig winch took a dump, so I got this winch to replace it. I had a mounting issue with it, the holes in base plate did'nt match my winchstand holes, but after some configuring and light machining, I got it fitted onto the jackstand. The winch is so smooth it's unreal. After shopping around I decided this one at Bass Pro was the best buy- cheaper than elsewhere and it came with strap & hook where the others did'nt. It's well made, and the dual drive seems to pull more evenly than my orig single geared one, which always seemed to pull/torque to one side. If you're in need of replacing yours, I recommend this product. April 27, 2010
decent product the winch bolted to my trailer post with no mods. 5 min job. the only problem i have with it is the little spring that operates the lock fell out the first time i used it. iput back in and went to the lake.and moved the switch.and out it fell again.had to drill a small hole beside the one there.now it works fine.i would have given it a 5 star if not for that problem. Design Flaw The rubber grip is attached to the handle with a rivet and will not last if you have to pull the boat on the trailer with the winch. If you can drive the boat on and just secure it with the winch, it's OK. I joined a club where I can't use the outboard to ramp out and the winch handle didn't last one summer. October 15, 2009

I am rigging up a pulley system in my garage for the hard top to my Jeep Wrangler. I need something to crank it up and also crank down. I can't use a free release winch when lowering it back down. If this winch IS free release, would you have anything that I could use for this application?? Thanks in advance!

i have a 17.5' starcraft fishmaster with a 75 horse and my trailer came with an 1800 lb winch so i would expect the 1600 to be ok for your boat.

I have an 18' tracker with a 115 hp 4-stroke mercury. the trailer that came with the boat had a 1400# winch with a 16' strap. It would load the boat, barely. should have been next size up. the 1600# dual action works great.

How wide is the spool?

Details:
I am looking at buying this wench, but I have to make sure it is narrow enough from side to side (gear to gear) on the spool itself. It can only be 2 1/2 inches wide at the spool. Can one of you guys help me out with this question? Is it inside 2.5?
