There is a neoprene sleeve that extends past the gore text fabric sleeve. The Gore Tex sleeve velcro's down on top of it. The neoprene gives a compfortable elastic seal, and the heavier fabric is able to fasten down tight too.

No, the hood is not detachable. I don't find that to be a problem even though I use the jacket for social applications as well.

Is this as rain proof as the normal 100mph suit?

Details:

In addition to the above unanswered question by the other poster, I'm curious how this suit does in heavy extended rains. I'm particularly interested in this suit because the full 100mph suit looks to be a bit much for warm days.

The other suit is much warmer but this also has the GORE-TEX Performance Shell rain gear sets the standard for 100% waterproof/breathable performance.
