Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 52 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bubba69 Best Purchase This crossbow is the best for your buck... Spent alot of time figuring out what cross is the cheapest in price and good. Very hard to put those to together cheap $ but good. Barnet did it with the Jackal... Very accurate. Dot system very direct. The only thing that Im scared of, is that if a dear comes out and the battery is dead on the scope.. because by accident was left on... But you can always carry a extra battery... Just amazing.. Buy it and dont regret it.. April 11, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by howlingnights cheap made I bought my crossbow 3 weeks before Christmas. I have fired it approx. 25 times. A month later the limb started to crack slightly and then the cam broke off of one side of it. bass pro took it back with no questions ask. Not sure what happened? I wax the strings, rail and cams every 5 shots. So, dry fire wasn't the problem? I bought new bolts and arrow heads which were the right grains and carbon fiber. Not sure what happened? February 11, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by 28yrsbowhunting good buy I bought this crossbow for my 12 year old son for Christmas. It shoots fast and is dead on. Get the cocking rope right away as we did it helps a lot. Make sure to keep fingers away from rails, my son did until he benched the 5th shot and spent time at the hospital getting his thumb fixed up. Next season he will be ready to bow hunt with me and I can't wait! January 9, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Travisou1 great cross bow Great crossbow so far for the money. i have shot it several times at 50 yard and it is dead on. December 26, 2012

the barnett jackel requires a minium of 425 grains this includes arrow and broad head. now if ur using a 20 in arrow i would make sure u use a 2219 model and a 100 grain broad head, that will get u to 432 grain, or u can use a 22in arrow and a 100 grain broadhead that will get u to 483 grain. if u shoot anything less than 425 grains its like dry fireing and u dont want that. u will damage ur bow. i myself us muzzy 3 blade with a 22 alum arrow with my jackel and i have never been let down. hope this helps

Highly recommend the DAP Spitfire Maxx. Cuts a 1 3/4 hole through the animal, razor sharp and good flight characteristics. Make sure you practice with same weight field tip to compensate for drop.

Regulation changes have been made for crossbow hunting in 2012

Hunters who are under 62 years old and wish to use a crossbow must wait until the regular firearm seasons conclude before hunting with a crossbow.

with the bolt and braodhead combind can not be less than 425 grains. so if ur using a 20 inch arrow make sure its a 2219 model and 100 grains braodhead will bring u in at 432, i myself us a 22 inch arrow and 100 grain braodhead with my jackel and that brings me in at 483 grain. u can always go longer with the arrows, but never shorter. and the min length for the jackel is 20 inch. no since in going any lighter on the grain of braodhead of a 100 or u asking for trouble.

A:
I keep all my arrows around 400 grains overall. Using 100 grain heads and usually aluminium shafts as I have had better luck with them and the cost a lot less. that weight is a little over the minimum weight and has performed wvery well for me and you will never notice the few feet per second slower speeds.

150lbs get the cocking rope it will aid well in pulling it back. You will need to set the rope length to fit you so you only have to pull to your waste.

Get the rope cocking device and it cuts it way down, a strong young kid could cock it with that.

From all the reviews and answers to questions this seems like a great bow for novices and experienced folks. What features is this bow missing compared to a higher end bow?

Missing: Integrated cocking device, quieter sound, Crazy power (it just has strong power... ), Light weight components and high quality optics.

I agree this bow is awesome, some people have money burning their pockets so companies make "high end" models to help relieve them of that burn :)

The only major set back with this bow is that is has no noise dampers and as a result the bow tends to be louder then most. I am sure there is after market products that can be purchased to help this issue, but so far the deer have no complained.

YES. I had the same question as you. I made an economical decision on the jackal and have not regretted it. 3 deer, 900 practice rounds, and only 1 string replacement. I can not complain.

This crossbow was my first and only crossbow I have ever used. I bought it one year ago and have had no problem with it. If you want to use it for practice or target shooting it is fantastic. However if you want it for hunting it is even better. This year I have shot two deer and neither of them went more than 45 yards. Great for any skill level.

A:
As with all bows it is never good to dry fire however with most crossbows they have a anti dry fire mechanism that doubles as a saftey. The only way you could dry fire a crossbow would be if you take the saftey off and shot. My friend accidentley dry fired his crossbow and was lucky not to have the limbs break.

No, it has a safety feature which won't let the bow fire unless an arrow is nocked in.

This bow is quiet for a crossbow however if you want to reduce the noise and vibrations i would look into purchasing Crossbow limb savers. Product 38-883-629-01 however make sure the product you purchase is the right one for the bow.
