I am writing this review after no less than 500 arrows through my crossbow. I wanted to make that clear up front. CHECK OUT MY 100 YARD THREE ARROW GROUP GHOST 400 ON YOUTUBE. I have had a few issues but Barnetts customer service is the best I have ever experienced!! At first I made the mistake of buying different arrows. I bought cheaper ones on Ebay. Not good. They didnt group well due to the spine or quality. This thing is very fast! You must have great arrows at this speed. I now use the headhunters and they are much better. YOU STILL HAVE TO CULL THROUGH THEM AND FIND YOUR BEST ARROWS. Don't put anything on the string - It won't last. I measured the difference with a SPL meter and it didnt make a difference anyway plus they will affect your accuracy. I have 2 bowjax revelation and 1 limbsaver on each side and at 1 meter it is about 85dBA. That is very good.
a BIPOD is a must. My string after about 500 shots is still good. The serving is showing some signs of use for sure, but I think it will go several hundred more shots before I do anything. This is a great bow.

Piece of junk right out of the box i noticed it was missing one of the safety guards the safety would not engage when cocking and after a week the safety would not work at all. the illuminated scope worked for a week then quit alltogether even after replacing the batteries. the scope was not even close at 20 yards which caused me to destroy several bolts while sighting it in. barnett said they would send me a shipping label and replace it. i chose to wait so i could hunt and not be without a bow. first time hunting the strings exploded and destroyed another bolt when i tried to shoot a deer now barnett will not return my calls. all my hunting buddies purchased crossbows for half the cost and have had zero problems. this bow shot real good but only lasted about 20 shots.

My first crossbow. Was leary if I was gonna like it after 35 yrs of bow archery. 3 shoulder surgeries later I bought this beast. The bow is FAST!!!. Only thing I would complain about is it sounds like a
.22 rifle going off. But with the speed a deer will have to work a little harder to duck the arrow. Cocking and safety are nice. The illuminated scope is great. Bow is a little front heavy if you have to lug it a long ways. 15 shots at the most and I was dead on with my mechanicals all the way out to 60 yards.

I got the Ghost400 I took it to the nearest Archery shop. I am handicaped and can't cock any cross bow. They checked it out and it was Factory set for 20 yards with 100 grain broadhead. After that they cocked it for me and I shot it several times until I was tired. It was GREAT !! Barnett just don't have a cocking device for it yet. Someone Must Cock it for me after I am in the stand. I Love It !!!
I rate it a 5 star... my not able to cock it is not barnett's fault....

I have back issues and can not use a compound bow. So I am looking at a crossbow my only concern is how much effort is needed to cock the bowAnswers

If you shorten the string length on the rope cocker it isnt bad. My sons penetrator is very easy to cock. The ghost has a little more weight and is a few inches longer. Its not bad. I was able to cock it in a tree climber with 5 deer at 30-40 yards and made the shot.

The energy produced is definined by the weight of the arrow and the speed it travels.Assuming the same weight arrows, the exomax has a speed of:

The Ghost 400 has a speed in excess of 400 fps.
I would assume that the Ghost can produce more energy. I don't believe there is much difference in arrow weight. Ghost is rated for a 400 grain arrow at that speed.

The 400 is the only Crossbow that I own. It is a real power house. It uses special bolts made just for the 400. It has real take down power.

If given the same arrow to shoot (including the weight in grains of the arrow), the Ghost does have a higher kinectic energy (in pounds of force) than the Excalibur Exomax crossbow.1 of 1
