i fish for kingfish off the jacksonville beach pier. i use this for my trolley reel and it works excellent. i paired it with a star stellar 12' and it will throw a mile. landed several good fish this year.
excellent drag and good spin control. will NOT overspin. i have used ambassadeur 6600s and shimano sealines and this is by far the best casting of them all. paired with the high gear ratio, it is the best reel i have ever owned.
i highly reccomend the purchase for anyone who needs to cast long distances and not backlash. also it looks dead sexy!

by pelagican Limitations on what the Avet SX can reel in
The Avet SX magnetic cast reel is an excellent small and compact power-house and would make a useful and invaluable conventional reel in your fresh and saltwater tackle collection.
That being said, the price for a single speed magnetic cast MC reel is a little over $200 and that is not in the league of cheap nor is it super expensive but clearly in the realm of value for a fisherman's dollar for performance. The reel is not made cheaply and with care can reward the owner with years of service.
The physical limitation is clear. Size is small which can pose an advantage or disadvantage. Advantage is the size allows for lighter lines and rods that are in the In Shore ocean or larger freshwater fish like bass. Rods are hard to find for the AVET SX. This is a reel you have to spend some time with and you'll agree with me that it is one finely engineered conventional reel.
By now, the reader is wondering why I am claiming this when I tell you that I just came back from a 6-Pack to Catalina and San Clemente Island with the Avet as the only reel I used along with my son.
The catch were: White Sea Bass, Calico Bass, Barracuda, Yellow Tail, Halibut and Bat Rays. The biggest ones were the ones that got away of course. Of course on the Avet SX loaded with 200 yards of 35 pound Spectra and 125 yards of 25 pound Izorline mono top shot.
What can the Avet SX reel in? On another trip, a 35 pound Albacore and 42 pound Blue Fin Tuna. On this trip, my son caught a 43 pound White Sea Bass, 11 pound Calico Bass (released), 22 pound yellow tail and a few Halibut. I hooked onto three fish that tore me up with fierce fights and the last one litterally stripped me of mono and spectra during a 250 yard run into the kelp that were in the distance. I couldn't stop the run with drag on full which would easily be laughed at by yellow tail in the neighborhood of +40 pounds.
The rod I used was one of two that I bought at Bass Pro Shops. One of the two broke easily but the one that didn't holds up very well. It's a good platform for the Avet SX. Catching yellows on a small reel is something else when there are lots of kelp within what the fish believes are an escape route that's not open ocean.14 pound drag is not recommended by me for those who fish for trophy size Yellows near kelp.
The Avet SX is an outstanding reel. Avet sells the only ocean worthy left hand conventional reels that are truly engineered not modified. I know because I opened one up. Accurate doesn't have a left hand conventional, nor does Penn, Alutecnos and I even got a reply from Tiburon and they stated in an email that they won't make one.
Enough reading. See attached pics for proof.
