With its three position takedown ferrule and lightweight design, the Ascend KPA Kayak Paddle delivers better contol and enhanced comfort out on the water. Built around the KPA reinforced Lexan, push button takedown ferrule, this paddle allows blades to be paddled in-line or feathered at 60 degrees for lower wind resistance and easy right or left handed control. This high performance ferrule also features specialized grooves to prevent the build-up of sand and debris to ensure a tight, trouble-free fit. Black, anodized aluminum shafts feature a vinyl shrink grip for comfort and ovalized grips for sure handling. High-impact asymmetrical plastic blades measure 7-1/4'' x 18-1/4''.

This is pretty much the basic method:
Stand next to the paddle; reach one arm up over your head and try curl your fingertips over the end of the paddle's blade. If you can't reach the top of the paddle, the paddle's too long. If you can reach your entire hand over it, then it's too short. But if you can just curl your fingertips over the top of the paddle, the length is good for you.
Also, depending on your paddling style and how wide your kayak is, you may eventually go slightly shorter or longer as you gain experience.
