This type of kayak is designed to work well in Class I and Class II rapids. We typically recommend Sit On Tops for Offshore…depending on the waves simply because this particular model has thru hull scuppers and self drains….if waves won’t be coming over the gunnels to the deck, than any of our other models are just fine . Thanks

Yes the two rod holder are behind the seat and angle backwards. You can paddle without ever hitting the rods. I use the two rod holders to troll down the river fairly often.

I own the Ascend FS12 and my 50lb. Vizsla can fit in the bow storage hull or in the stern storage hull. It's a little cramped for her but as long as we aren't out too long she can handle it.

It would have to be a small lab or springer. A piece of carpet would make it nice on the front.

Which one?

Not sure if I would be better off with the sit on top or the sit in. I will be using it for the bay year round. I like the protection of the sit in but i have used a sit on top and didn't have any issues.

I think for fishing a sit on top(SOT)offers more space and ease of moment. You also don't have to worry about it filling full of water should you flip. You can easily get off a SOT and swim or snorkel and get back on again.
if you check kayak fishing sites, you'll see the SOT is the kayak type of choice for fishing.

Staff Answer
A:
SOTs "sit-on-top" offer more freedom of movement for your lower body. Many kayak anglers prefer SOTs because you can dangle your feet in the water, shift sideways, and sit cross legged. Some are even stable enough you can stand up in them. With a SOT you don't need to worry about getting trapped inside should you tip because you're on top of the boat. You'll simply fall off the kayak, which is a welcome trait to some who find SINKs uncomfortable. Some beginners also find it easier to get on and off of a SOT model.

SINKs "Sit-inside" provide more protection from the elements. Because you sit in these models, the lower half of your body is protected from the sun and the rain, unlike in a SOT. You can purchase spray skirts to prevent water from entering the inside of the kayak. The major advantage to SINKs is you stay drier when kayaking, which is critical in cool climates and foul weather.

A:
Select an area of the boat that is fairly flat and will be in the water at all times. Do not mount the transducer near the bow if it will be out of the water when the boat is on plane. Air underneath the transducer will interfere with the readings.

I own an Ascend FS12 sit in kayak and I can tell you that SINK kayaks in general are not the best platform for trying to stand and cast. You can stand, however, it is quite the balancing act.

If you're wanting to stand and cast without getting up close and personal with the water, look at the FS12 sit on top kayak.
