I bought this kayak last year and thought it was time to write a review. Since we have had a mild winter, I was able to use it year round. I can't say enough about this kayak. I've used it in all types of water, from fresh to salt, lakes, rivers, inland waters and bays. I've fished for all types; from small pan fish to big blues. I've also crab from it and headed out in it to the mud banks to find clams and oysters.
The seat is the best thing about this kayak. On opening day, I was in the kayak from 5:30 a.m. to about 6:00 p.m. and not once did I have any pain. I even took an afternoon nab in it too.
The only thing I would say negative about the kayak is the weight and that's not even a big deal for me. If you have to put it on or in a car rack, then I would say it might take 2 people, but if you have a truck with a ladder rack or one of those bed extenders that fit in your hitch, then the weight is not going to be an issue.

Love this kayak! I'm a big boy 6' 300 pounds. Bought carts and dragged the 2 fs12 back in Upper Michigan lakes and loved them. Seat is very nice, spent 6 hours in them without getting out. If the fish would have been working with us more could have stayed longer. It is my first and last kayak! Does everything I want it to. It is built solid so it is a bit heavier than others but worth every pound.
Second I also bought the 2 fs12 for duck hunting instead of skiffs and I am not disappointed at all. I have 2 daughters that love them and a nephew that thinks they kick butt. Had several friends in them and they fell in love. They thought I was crazy with my size to duck hunt out of them, they were so wrong. Half the time I don't get to use them because the kids are duck hunting with them. With the sit in you are so low to the water you blend in so much easier. Buying another one this spring for my youngest!
If you’re looking for a grunt kayak this is it!!! Duck hunting I would say was the best in it this year, but getting in small lakes way back in the woods is so much fun!!!!! Looking forward to next year!!!!!!

Now that I have spent many hours/days in this boat on several different types of water, I am ready to comment on it. Overall, I am still very happy with my purchase. It is a good, well built, durable and functional boat, and the great seat makes it comfortable enough to paddle and fish in it all day.
It tracks through the water nicely, even with some chop in the water (I haven't had it out in white caps yet, so can't comment on the performance in that situation), but I find my particular boat tends to drift/pull to the right for some reason, and that is even with the load balanced on the boat. I'd be curious if any one else experiences the same or similar thing.
I love having all the storage opportunities, the built in rod holders, and the ability to modify it to your preferences like I have. I definitely like being able to bring as much or as little of my gear out while fishing, and having it either stored out of the way, or right there where I need it.
One thing that is a major fail are the rod tubes. It is very difficult to get a rod to slide into them easily, and get them back in there more than about 3 feet deep, which means unless your rod is any more than 4-1/2 to 5 feet long, they don't work. Also, they are positioned in the middle/rear of the boat, so the rod slides in toward the rear of the boat, which would make it difficult to retrieve them handle-first while out on the water.
The other negative is the ability (or lack thereof) to stand up and fish. I was very disappointed when I tried to stand up in mine. It was like being on a surfboard for the first time! I can't imagine (unless you are a really small person or a former gymnast with great balance) that you could stand up and set the hook on a bass without ending up in the drink! I am 6' and #205, so perhaps that is too tall/heavy for this boat? I'd like to know if others are having better success standing up and fishing in theirs.
Other than those few things, it is a good and solid craft, and definitely priced well for the quality to get. Overall I am happy I purchased it, and would recommend it as a good buy.

First a disclaimer: The keel was crushed and punctured in shipment and the product was returned for full refund without any trouble. Since then, I have purchased a 12-foot angling kayak of a different brand, and have found that its 50 pounds is plenty enough to heave (solo) onto the roof rack of my car. For the short time that I had possession of this Ascend 12, just moving it around the garage was a chore. I could not imagine hoisting all 75 pounds of it myself onto a roof rack. Putting that aside, I was thrilled with the features on the kayak, including: (1) anchor arrangement, (2) multiple rod holders, (3) secret compartments, and (4) hull shape. Looks like it'll track all day. I was really liking the rear cutouts that were shaped for either a plastic crate or a pickle bucket. I have not seen any other angling kayak with those features. So, shave off 25 pounds and I'd consider this kayak after I wear out the one that I purchased.

Does it have the hardware in place to mount a rudder, or can it be added later?Answers
A:Â
Shouldnt need one. Saw off a small paddle if you are planning on fishin with this kayak. It will halp you make minor adjustments if river fishing.Details:Â
I prefer smooth bottom canoes and kayaks for absolute control and quick turns ( rudders are people who don't know how to paddle). The images here on Bass Pro do not show the bottom of the FS12, but the side view appears to show some rudders aft and stern. Does this boat have a full length rudder? How well does it make tight turns? Can it spin on a dime without a lot of resistance?Answers

Check out a youtube review of the ascend fs12. There are only a few and one of them shows the bottom very wellDetails:Â
I have seen reviews that said the Ascend paddle came with the kayak but it doesn't mention it in the description...Answers
A:Â
No, the Ascend FS12 Kayak will not include a paddle. Paddles sizes and styles are different for everyone so the paddles would need to be selected to your specifications and personal preference. ThanksDetails:Â
I noticed the answer to the FS12T regarding the rotomolding of that model. Is this Kayak also rotomolded?Answers
A:Â
YES. We utilize a top of the line customized Aqua Tuff Blend utilizing High Density Virgin Polyethylene. ThanksDetails:Â
I'm looking into buying a kayak to go down the Rappahannock River in VA and it doesn't get above Class III, mostly Class II and I rapids.Answers
A:Â
This type of kayak is designed to work well in Class I and Class II rapids. We typically recommend Sit On Tops for Offshore…depending on the waves simply because this particular model has thru hull scuppers and self drains….if waves won’t be coming over the gunnels to the deck, than any of our other models are just fine . ThanksDetails:Â
Not sure if the back is structurally sound enough to add an accessory rudder.Answers
A:Â
Yes, this kayak can accept a rudder. They are structurally sound. ThanksAnswers

Yes the two rod holder are behind the seat and angle backwards. You can paddle without ever hitting the rods. I use the two rod holders to troll down the river fairly often.
