I have been paddling canoes and kayaks for decades. This is the most stable kayak that I have ever paddled. I took my new D12 to the Buffalo National river this past weekend and was totally impressed by both the comfort of the new seat design and the size of the cockpit opening. The storage areas in the front and the rear would make this a great kayak for trecking and camping along the rivers or someplace like the Boundary Waters. The stability makes this an excellent kayak even for the begining novice. This same stability makes it a fantastic fishing platform and would make it a good kayak for those who enjoy taking their K9 friends along for a ride. The size of the cockpot opening as well as the ample area for the feet and extended legs make this the best kayak out there for taller persons who feel as if they are confined in a smaller kayak or a kayak with a much smaller cockpit opening.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by YoBub Good, solid, but heavy
This is the first kayak I've owned and I'm very happy with it. I bought this model because I'm a big guy (6'4" 265) and wanted a boat that would hold me with some gear.
I'm new to kayaks and didn't know much about them. This kayak has some subtle features that really make a difference when using it.
The footpegs are easily adjustable and pit even my long legs.
There are knee pads to rest your knees on which really make paddling more comfortable.
The tie downs has a small loop to tie off your paddle when you are on the beach or swimming off the kayak.
The seat is easily adjustable and very comfortable.
Very nice features.
The boat paddles and tracks well. I use it on Lake Michigan, and it does well even in some chop.
Downsides: This unit is heavy. I get get it on the rack before I paddle, but after I paddle I'm too tired to lift it up.
Even with the flotation, if the boat swamps there is no way to empty the water while sitting in the kayak because you sit too low in the water. This creates a dangerous situation and the unit needs more flotation.
The seat attachment is a really cheap design and subject to break over time.
Overall I would recommend this, and the features really make paddling nicer, but beware the weight, and get some float bags so you don't sink.

I am new to Kayaking, my son bought another brand I tried it and was hooked, so I spent the extra money and got the D12. My sons was a name brand from another sporting goods store. The differance is like trying to compare a schwinn to a harley, they are both kayaks but that is where it ends the D12 has so much room in it and tracks like a dream. The seat is so comfortable, I took a 4 1/2 hr trip down the river the other day and my butt never got sore. Do yourself a favor and buy an ascend with the removeable seat, you will never regret it and spend more hours and enjoy your kayak so much more. If something were to happen to it I would head right out and repurchase another D12. My wife has a D10 and feels the same way.

i bought this kayak after owning two others and not being able to be comfortable for long fishing trips 3-4 hours. I am a big guy 6'1 275lbs. This kayak is amazingly comfortable and very stable. not only did my back or butt not hurt i didnt even think about them on my last 5 hour trip! i was able to stand up very easily as this is a extremely stable kayak. i for one can tell you that if you buy one it will be the best kayak decision you ever make! !!!!!!

The FS12 has rod holders already built in, and slightly different covers for the storage areas. Also, when I looked at them, the seat in the D12 was a better quality seat. I bought the D12 and plan to put in a rod holder myself.A:Â
The FS12 is the angler version of the D12. The FS12 comes with two rod holders mounted behind the seat, it also comes with a rod holder that mounts on the dash of the cockpit. The FS12 also comes with an anchor and trolley system, and rod storage down the sides of the kayak for rods up to 6' 6". The FS12 also comes with two cleats already pre-attached.
The FS12 also has a mesh cover that goes over the back end of the kayak.
Color wise the D12 comes in Blue/Black and Red/Black. The FS12 comes in Camo and Desert Storm Camo.
Both the D12 and FS12 are 12' long and 29" wide. Both have a weight capacity of 350 pounds. The FS12 weighs a bit more than the D-12 because of the preattached equipment.

No. Plan to spend another $100 on a paddle, life jacket, and bilge pump.A:Â
Paddles, life vests, and other accessories not already attached to the kayak must be purchased seperately.Answers

At this time, we do not offer a Spray Skirt. However, you should be able to find one online or at a local store. Just measure the size.Answers

I have paddles the Ascend D12 in class II rapids and it handles well. I have been paddling for over 40 years. I would not recomend this for true class III rapids. The design of the bottom of the kayak is not rounded enough to slide sideways down the side of a wave. For bigger water you need a kayak that has structural design that gives you characteristics for water like thatAnswers

Yes. I'm 6'4" and I was able to comfortably adjust the footpegs.A:Â
yes there are adjustable foot rests. There is a lot foot room as well. I have found that the foot rests in the D12 provide ample adjustability those paddlers with long legs who have felt confined in other kayaks. This is one of the better characteristics of this kayak that it has foot room for large feet and ample leg room1 of 1
