Rated 2 out of 5 by PhilmontBSAHiker1 Very disappointed
Bass Pro replaced a similar Red Head boot with these. I went through two pair of the Red Head boots over the last 7 years and still have them. I do a lot of hiking and am in the woods a lot. The leather is getting dry but I can still wear them. The new Ascend boots were great, I thought. Yes, they were waterproof but after a year and a half of use, when I recently went to wear them I was tying the laces and on pulling them tight the entire piece of leather the laces are attached to, came right off the shoe.. Looking at the other shoe, the stitching is also beginning to wear. Yes, they were comfortable but no longer wearable. Thank goodness I kept my old Red Head shoes, I'm back to wearing them. The Ascend boots were not cheap. I thought I would get a lot of years out of them. Would not recommend. Bass Pro, bring back the original Red Heads. Very similar but much better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by BTRUITT LOW QUALITY HIKING BOOT
This is not a quality hiking boot. I have used these for approximately 1 year and they are already falling apart. I broke these boots in in about 3-5 months, using them for mild to moderate task aroung the house before I hit the trail. I put about 100 trail miles on these boots before they began to deteriorate. The nylon loop at the top of the boot has detached at the seam and the plastic shank is already broken in one of the boots. There is no more support in the sole so the boots are essentially worthless for hiking.
The boots are not waterproof as described. I had to use a sealant (I used sno seal for a while then switched to bees wax) to keep my foot dry.
On a positive note, they felt true to size and were comfortable (while they lasted).
Overall, I was very disappointed in the quality and performance.
Save your money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Bean2 Pretty good so far
I haven't put many miles on the ascend boots yet. With limited use thus far, I can tell you they are comfortable, run true to size, like the vibrum sole, seem a good value for the price. I gave a 3 star (average) review because they haven't seen enough action yet to see how they hold up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jfitz Recent use of new Ascent Boots
I owned a pair of Ascent Boots before and was very happy with them.
I had my new boots for six days before I undertook a 43 mile hike on the Appalachian Trail. The boots were not even close to being broken-in but I had no major problems with the journey. I experienced three blisters and some hot spots on my feet but I believe that wearing a liner would have helped with the blisters.
The boots have great arch support and the Vibram sole provided non-slip traction in mud, rain, and on rocky surfaces. The boots are full grain leather and waterproof. The laces do not come untied unlike my Redwing Boots. I wish they were made in the United States.
