Arbogast Hula Popper
One of the most productive big bass baits of all time, the Arbogast® Hula Popper elicits bone crushing strikes. Its concave mouth creates loud popping sounds and a bubble trail, while the hula skirt offers a seductive bit of fish attracting flash. Can be plunked, popped, twitched, or jerked, and the slower you fish the Hula Popper, the more fish it pulls from cover to the surface.
- Creates a loud, popping noise and a bubble trail
- Seductive skirt
- An all-time favorite for big bass

3-8 oz up to 1/2 oz (if you can find them)
My colour prefrence is the leapord frog but all of the frog patterns work well.
When lure hits the water, let the ripples disappear, reel up slack gently to keep a tight line and give the rod tip a quick jerk. This will take some practice, as your motion will be fine tuned based on getting the lure to make that popping/chugging sound.
I then allow the ripples to disappear again (really after each pop waiting between 3 to 30 seconds is enough and how fast you work it just depends on the day and how sluggish the bass may or may not be) then pop again until you are a little over half way back then get it out there again.
Remember, in my opinion, most strikes occur on the "rest" between pops so be patient and practice practice.
Less striking because of appearance
Bass didnt seem to mind as it jumped out of the water and made off with it. I was so upset I had it for over 10 years.
Purchased a new one and it is so fun.
