If you try to point the camera with just a twisting of the wire it is very difficult with the underwater currents. However if you rig some sort of stabilizer, PVC pipe, dowel rod, etc......your imagination is your only limit. It tends to work better and you can also place a marker of some sort on your stabilizer to know exactly where your pointing it once it has dissapeared into the depths.

Yes you have to twist the wire. I found tieing a cord to the tail assembly gave me much better control and stabilized the camera. Fish didnt seem to mind it being down there, never saw any of them get spooked.

Im not sure what the difference between this camera and the aqua view cameras are. We dont fish on ice, we do lake fish . My husband wants one where he can actually see the fish and see how they react to bait.

For a black and white TV it actually has pretty good clarity. You might have to adjust the darkening and lighting buttons on the TV for the spot he's currently in and if he looks deep with this camera, it does have a hundred foot cord, turning on the infared lights before you send it down is a good idea and it doesn't seem to scare the fish or startle them. You can actually watch your line with bait right in front of the camera and tell if the fish are interested or if there just passing it up. as for the aqua view i believe that the only difference in that paticular model shows an on screen compass bearing. Not really worth the extra 150 dollars i think. Hope this helps.

Alicia this is gonna be kind of tough. Its almost a full time job running the camera and you really don't have free hands to fish. I know you can put it on a tripod and free your hands up but then you can't really move the camera to follow your bait presentation. I lake fish as well and it has been fun using the camera around briges and boat slips to find the fish lurking underneath

CORRECTION... The manual actually says you can see on camera twice the distance that you can see with your eyes eg. if you see three feet down you will see about six feet on camera, but the 2mph trolling speed is accurate.
