It is okay. But when you catch a fish such as a stripper the pole is pulled down which in a end ressult pulls the rod/reel down into the sand. BUT IF YOUR STRONG YOU CAN GET THIS DEEP ENOUGH IN TO THE SAND.

I have 4 of these sand spikes and love them. Great in both hard & soft sand. Recommend you bring a rubber mallet but other that that, they are great.

These rod holders hold the rod securely, but the way the rods clip into the rod holders makes them difficult to pick up when a fish strikes, and can cause damage to the rod.
