The Abu Garcia Veritas Ice Fishing Reel is built for landing fish in frigid weather. It features a smooth 3-bearing system with a strong machined aluminum spoon, and slow-oscillation for even line lay. The body and rotor are built of lightweight and ultra-stable graphite for strength and minimum weight.

The Abu Garcia Veritas Ice Fishing Rod is built on a 24-ton graphite blank for battling big fish from the icy depths, with slick, durable, and corrosion-resistant stainless steel guides and an extreme exposure reel seat for increased blank contact so you can feel the subtle bites and lifts that cold water fish use to take the bait.

Not what I expected, but OK I just got my order in today. The first thing I noticed is that this rod does not have the backbone I expected. I know, it's an ultralight, but I thought it would have a little more beef closer to the handle -- comparable to the Dave Genz Ice Buster rod I am replacing with it (because I broke it). I fear that if I try to jig with this rod, it won't have the same action because of the spongy softness that the rod has. I think I will just use this rod to deadstick waxworms when fishing bluegills. I won't be jigging with it for perch, but it will definitely handles them. I can bend the rod tip to touch the reel like it's a soft spring. Also, the eyelets are kind of crooked and I'm not sure if that is intentional. December 12, 2013
