I don't normally write reviews but had to when I seen a few bad ones on this reel. I started out with abus black max and silver max which are both nice low price reels. I stepped up to the revo stx and put it on a duckett medium cranking rod for weightless plastics. This reel is amazing. I'm not an expert by any means but with a lil fine tuning with the brake adjustments I can cast a weightless fluke or worm extremely far. First time out it takes a lil time and patience to get it perfect but after you do you will be very pleased. So far no monsters were caught but small bass up to three pounds have been no problem at all.

I was first very pleased with this reel. Soo pleased that I left great reviews about it. After a week of fishing with the STX, I started to hear the gears making noise. This issue got louder and louder as the day progresses. So, I follow the maintenance instructions and did what was needed to get this STX back in fishing shape. From there, it was like new again.
One other complaint, the STX isn't much for distance casting. The good thing is, I never bird nest with this reel. What I had notice was, I can cast at least 10 yards farther than this STX with my SX. So here are my options, I could either get a reel with no bird nest at all or a reel with possibility of bird nest but with longer cast?

Rated 2 out of 5 by Bkemmer Give me back the gen 2's
The gen 2's were so much better than the gen 3's. It's not even close in my opinion. The gen 3's don't last and aren't built to withstand days on the water. The finish on the button fades quickly. They don't cast near as far as the gen 2's. They are lighter, but seem to be cheaper. Give me my gen 2's back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by QcAngler The old génération was better !!!
The old génération was better !!! I'm speaking about the gen. 2 and gen. 1 reels. Because there better built reels and have a lot less cheap materials, more resistant, so more durable, more efficient and have better performances.
