The next generation of Revo reels includes the Revo® MGX from Abu Garcia®. This ultra-lightweight, low-profile reel combines an enhanced compact design with Abu Garcia’s ground-breaking X-Mag™ alloy frame and C6 carbon sideplates. In addition to its lightweight design, the Revo MGX features a unique Infinitely Variable Centrifugal Brake (IVCB-IV™) that raises the standard for cast control in all other reels. A compact bent carbon handle provides a more ergonomic design that is extremely lightweight. Its lightweight frame provides exceptional corrosion resistance and rigidity for excellent gear alignment. C6 carbon sideplates afford 54% in weight reduction over aluminum without sacrificing strength or durability.

  • Nine stainless steel HPcacCR™ bearings + one roller bearing provide increased corrosion protection
  • One-piece X-Mag alloy frame for a super-light yet extremely strong frame
  • Infini II™ spool design for extended castability and extreme loads
  • C6 carbon sideplates provide significant weight reduction without sacrificing strength and durability
  • Carbon Matrix Drag™ system means smooth, consistent drag pressure across the entire drag range
  • Aircraft grade aluminum main gear for weight reduction without sacrificing durability
  • IVCB-IV Infinitely variable centrifugal brake gives very precise brake adjustments, allowing anglers to easily cast a wide variety of baits
  • Compact bent carbon handle for a more ergonomic design that is extremely lightweight
  • Flat EVA knobs offer greater comfort and durability
  • Ti coated line guide reduces friction and improves durability
  • Recessed reel foot allows for a more ergonomic reel design
Abu Garcia Revo MGX Baitcast Reel 4.8 5 66 66
Revo MGX Baitcaster I had the grand oppurtunity to win one of these Revo MGX this past August from Abu Garcia. I have now fished this reel 2 different days and I can tell you this is one smooth reel ! The light weight makes it a real joy to cast, your wrist and arm doesn't get tired and you have better control. Also, this thing casts so smooth, I never had any backlash or bird's nest using the reel for the entire 2 days I fished with it. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who takes their fishing seriously. kudo's to Abu Garcia for again making a very sound product! Keep up the good work. Wingman ! October 14, 2011
What's a backlash? Great reel. Almost never backlashes with the break completely backed off. Casts a mile on top of that as well. Just wish there was more drag and had a little more cranking power. September 28, 2014
Perfect cast... But... The Revo MGX is the best casting bait-caster i have ever used. Could cast an extra 25% farther with no bird-nesting. The drag malfunctioned twice so far but fixed its self as i was removing the string so i could send the reel back. I will keep using it but if the drag malfunctions one more time i will be sending it back.. I bought this reel to last for 10 years or so but i don't see that happening. Never fished with a better reel but it feels like it could brake at any second. I get the same casting distance with my exo quantum. I would suggest both reels. February 13, 2012
I couldn't believe it! Yesterday I was practicing with one of the Pros for a FLW tournament on Lake Guntersville. We were discussing the fact that both of us used REVO reels because of their quality and dependability. He asked if I had tried the new Revo MGX yet, I told him I had not and he handed me the one he was casting....I couldn't believe how little it weighed, how small it was, how far I could cast the bait and how smooth the retrieve was! I was instantly hooked! You have outdone yourself with the MGX...far and away the best baitcasting reel ever! Charlie e October 19, 2011

If you check out both the revo mgx and the daiwa steez, both claim to be the lightest reel. The mgx is 5.4 oz. so my question is, which reel is lighter, the revo mgx, or the daiwa steez?

I did blow my braking system to peices on my mgx however on a cast...which abu couldnt explain to me how it could happen... maybe a one in a million thing..

The MGX is well worth the expense I have several Abu reels and they will nest up more often than I like the MGX will cast a mile and hardly no nests except casting into the wind with a light lure.

If weight of reel and size is important to you, then, "yes", it is worth the additional money. I have a Shimano Calcutta, 200, in the silver version and which costs about
$150 less, which is outstanding, but weighs about 3 or so ounces more. And, dollar for dollar, is better selection.

I would say yes because of the wide range breaking system the MGX has. I tell what though, the new revo premier is super close to the MGX in preformance but instead of $ paying $149.00 the new premier is $299.00 $50 cheaper than the MGX, its has the exact same breaking system as the MGX plus higher drag at 20lbs. versus 12lbs.

I have tried lighter lines and I can cast them but they dig in too bad if you make a big hook set and or get hung up.

I thing when using line less that 8lb you should use a spinning reel. I have used 8lb line for fishing jerk baits and cranks to get them deeper. Typical your using very light lures with 4lb line (1/32,1/8 oz or lighter). This reel cast 1/8oz lures very well though.

I have been using this reel since it came out. The line sizes i use are 6 and 8lb test with no problems at all. I wouldn't see why you would have an issue. This reel is simply the best reel I've ever used!

best bet would be a Medium-light or Medium, fast action rod, perhaps a St. Croix Avid, 6'8 or '6'9", or a St. Croix Mojo Inshore, 7' Medium or Medium-Light, Fast Action. I do not own an Abu Garcia Veritas or similar rod, but I have read those rods work well also with that reel.
The St. Croix, Medium, extra-fast, Avid, are super!
