Abu Garcia Revo MGX Baitcast Reel
lightest and the best.....
reel in its class. There are a few other reels that are going for the "lightest" title right now. Shimano Core, Daiwa Steez, Lew's team pro blah blah etc etc...Look no further than the MGX. This is the best light weight reel ever created. 12 pounds of drag pressure, extremely smooth retrieve and the best braking system ever developed for a reel. This reel will flat out sling a light lure or soft plastic. When you first hold this reel you wouldn't think it could hold up to a big ol lunker...you will be blown away at the power this little reel posseses!

Best of the Best!!
I own several Abu Garcia Revo reels including a couple STX and a Winch a SX but this MGX is by far my favorite. It's so light that you almost forget your holding it and the external cast control is the best I have ever used, it cast the lightess lures into the wind with no problems. I was a little hesitant to purchase one due to the price and the fact I loved my other revo reels, but I'm glad I did! I can see more of these coming into my collection in the future! If your are a serious fisherman who wants the one reel you will never want to lay down, look no farther!

Excellent specific technique reel
Please excuse the length of this review, but I am trying to give a fair unbiased review that I think will help those looking for info on this reel.
To begin with , I am 62 years old and have been fishing since probably 6 years old. I have fished with casting reels in addition to spinning reels since the mid 60's. My first casting reel (still owned and working fine) was an ABU-Garcia 5500c. Since then I have owned and still do own way to many reels from ABU-Garcia,Shimano,Daiawa,lews and Quantum. I must be a very lucky person because I have never had problems with any of them. They have all done what they were supposed to do and of course over the years the new reels have only gotten better. The only times I could say a few of the reels fell off from their original performance were in the case when I thought it was a good idea to buy a companies low end reel at a great price. Live and learn, you do get what you pay for. I believe the first consideration you should look for is the time a company has been in this business and the quality of past products. All of the above companies produce good products. Their low end will obviously not be as good as their high end products. I do think that some are getting carried away with their price tags and find it hard to believe we are getting that much more for the money.Trust me I am a fanatic with my fishing equipment and truly enjoy the feel and performance of my equipment. This is one of the things I love about fishing the most. Ok I warned you,now for the review of this reel. If I only could own one reel it would not be this one. I think the person buying their first and only reel would be far better off buying a less expensive and overall more versatile reel. In the case of ABU Garcia that would probably be the stx model. Some one else can pick the model from the other companys, but my point is you may want something with more drag for northerns, trout, and still have an excellent reel for bass, and walleye. I know this reel could handle larger species but to me was not built for that purpose. I think this reel is for the fanatic that has many reels and wants to fine tune their outfit they use for worm, jig, jerkbait, and topwater. Trust me it will give you more feel in whatever rod you are useing because of its light weight. It's a whole different world with any of the new lightweight reels. It remains to be seen if they hold up as well as older heavier models. I have had no problems in six months, but that is only six months. I also own the lews pro ss and just purchased an on sale quantum smoke. I have not had any problems with the lews either but have only had it for six months also. Time will tell with any of these reels, but if I go by past experience with these companies, all should be well. I love my mgx . It is light, has a great drag, cast controls could'nt be better and is a dream to use. It is up to you as to spending the money, but if it fits your needs, I can't think of a better product or company to trust in. Forgot to mention, I don't own the steez or core, but I will bet they are great reels also. It comes down to money, use, and bang for the buck. Hope this helps.

A great reel!!!!!
This is the best reel I ever owned. It cast light 1/4 oz lures and SENKOS well. I use mine for light weight lures with 12lb mono. When paired up with a micro guide rod it is a very light weight combo. You will be suprise about how your sensitivity will rise with a light weight rod it's amazing.
