Rated 5 out of 5 by INSHORE GOLD STANDARD This is my second season with this reel.. I waited a very long time to get this reel at bps from the time it was announced to the time it was on the shelf. Save your researching efforts and just get this reel. it has the drag power, size , line capacity etc. CASTs are fantastic. I have had a few birds nests but they were my fault for not paying attention or it was in the dark....BESIDES I will cast ALOT during a 14 hour period of wade fsihing. I throw gulp and xrap. My reel is matched up to an e21 Salty Stix. (discontinued). ABU makes a new REVO MGX but I think it will need extra attention since it is not really for saltwater. My reel gets dunked in water from the surf on every trip. I have had no problems and I spray it down after every event. I've oiled maybe only 3 times. SO NOW i want another one so I can troll another line from my waist. or from my doughnut. Not sure how wise that is. BUT I want MORE fish. My backup reel is a Shimano citica and works fine. I started on that reel but that needed alot more attention in order to continue to cast well. As a second rig for wading, this is more than certain that this second reel will get Salt water on it. I'm THAT confident that it will be easy to maintain. I will more than likely pair it up with an Ugly Stick since I estimate it will be abused more in the water. May 29, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Year's over Have had a great time working this reel. Works extremely well, as long as i didn't birdnest. Had very few birdnests. I love the smoothness and feel of this reel. The drag got a real workout with a couple of great reds and awesome with some nice trout here ar Port Mansfield. The gear ratio is perfect, After a year, I've put it thru it's paces and getting my fav cleaned and lubed for another season. May 14, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 Simply Awesome I guide up in central MN and I fish everything from Crappie to Musky and I only fish with the Revo series reels. I have 5 Revo 61's 4 Revo 51's and 2 Revo Inshores and all are more than capeable of handling any freshwater fish here in MN. I just love my little Inshores as they are the smallest and lightest of the Revo's I own and I have landed several 45 to 55" Musky on them with ease! These reels are simply awesome as the title says. Rated 5 out of 5 by From Bass to Reds and Specks without a change of reels? This reel allows me to fish Bass in NE Texas one day and stalk Reds and Specs in the flats of the Texas Gulf the next. I use this reel for dang near everything. When I am on the Gulf I am still in the habit of spraying out my reels after every trip but with this reel I spray some lube on the reel or Reel Magic and I am good. I no longer need to break down the reel every night to lube it up. In doing this I do not loose any performance or feel. Now I do break it down once a year and do an in-depth cleaning. Twice if I am in the saltwater a lot. At the end of the day I love the feel of the reel in my hand and the feel of the retrieve. The drag is very nice too. April 6, 2012

I would choose the Inshore model very smooth and plenty of drag the only down side to this reel is that it doesn't have the brass gearing like the STX but overall a good reel with plenty of line capacity.

I think it would be great for striped bass. I say this because ther simular to reds as far as the "fight" and have had no issues bringing in reds that are way over slot [36" to 42"]

No the Revo Toro is a much bigger Reel
the Inshore would be a better casting reel with lighter baits.

A:
Yes it would be ok for that as well but if you are not fishing salt water try the Revo Toro better suited for larger plastic baits.
I would use 50lb braid.

I use in saltwater mainly with 1/4 oz and 3/8 oz jig head and swim baits and I have no complaints. I wade fish for the most part so it does see a fair about of saltwater (not just spray). I do use corrosion X and rinse them out after every wade. I also break them down and clean 2-3 times a year as well. I just do not think any reel will hold up to saltwater with our serious maintance.

A:
Like all baitcasting reels it has a casting control brake I think it uses a centrifugal
braking system instead of the magnetic like some of the other Revos with out it you would be spending your day untangling
backlashes instead of fishing.

No, but the spool drag is well designed and does the job very well. Once its set long cast and very few backlash issues.

It has internal brake system on the side cover that is accessable with a thumb screw. No magnetic control, but less exposed parts in saltwater is a good thing. Between the internal brake and the mechanical brake, it adjusts fine for me.

as good as this reel casts, you do not need the other brake, it has one adjustable one and that is enough

yes. The 2010 Revo Premier may be worth taking a look at as well, though not having bearings in the handle may be more desirable for a saltwater reel. The longer handle on the inshore is really nice as well.
