Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 42 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 Great until you catch a fish. It feels great in the store, but once you put line on it and catch a fish on it, it feel like its full of sand. January 5, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by WISH LIST FINELY TUNED ATHLETIC MACHINE. GONNA USE IT TO LAND A RECORD December 14, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Tiny Junk I bought the 30 model thinking it would be a good sized reel considering the sizes ranged from 10 to 40, I was wrong. The reel is tiny, much smaller than my Quantum Catalyst PTi. The Reel holds 10 pound line, but given the size, a fish that required 6 pound would be pushing it. The Reel looks and feels very cheap, and the handle looks like it will break if I use it. The Reel does not have a handle nut on the opposite side as most all other Reels, rather it has a smooth sleeve on the handle for tightening and loosening, needles to say, given the smooth finish and the small size of the reel, this system is not easy for people with normal sized hands or larger. Over priced as is, and is a Reel I would put on an ultralight. December 14, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by sleek and dependable This reel is small sleek and strong. Not only does it possess tournament and professional style with its black and red design but its 7 bearings system makes for easy casts and amazing drag. This is light weight but will hold and bring in the monster all while looking good. Def a must have for this holiday season because this will be the first thing you use come spring December 6, 2011

You can use it for that purpose. If you plan on using it solely for salmon/steelhead,I suggest the size 40 model due to the higher drag rating and line capacity.

I received this as a gift with a Bass Pro Bionic BCB66HS 6'6" rod. Is this a good match for bass fishing in the Northeast?

A:
The rod is a little short for my liking, but great in brush and thickly wooded banks. Also easy on the wrist and hand in long-term events, particularly with the light little 20 size. I would recommend 10 lb. Braid in order to get enough on there to handle the unexpected.

I would put 20 or 30 pound braid and it would be a great combo for bass.
