Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Reel for the Money I purchased this reel a couple of weeks ago at the San Antonio store and I have put it to the test. I am a Professional Fishing Guide down here in the Aransas Pass Texas area and we have caught several solid Reds, Drum, and Nice Sheepshead and it has held up great. I have 8 of the Shimano Citica Reels and this reel is just as good and holds up just as well. I have all my reels matched up with the 8-1/2' Steelhead 2 piece rods which are really the best setup you can have. I use the 8-17# class rods and the extra length will ensure you can add distance to reach those fish that you normally cannot reach using a 7 or 7-1/2' rod. Rated 4 out of 5 by nice reel! I got this reel 2 replace my lews speed spool(my buddy bought it from me)I really wanted an orra in the first place but didn't like the brake configuration so when they came out with the gen.2 I had to give it a try.overall this is a VERY nice reel the only thing I don't like about it is that it is louder than the speed spool but it will cast further and the spool tension knob doesn't have to be adjusted near as much as the speed spool.I really like this reel I caught 1 of my biggest bass to date with it on a green pumpkin chomper's hula grub.that bait is legit!the orra sx handled that 6lb.bass like it was nothing March 10, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by First Impressions I haven't gotten a chance to get on the water with mine yet, but here's my first impressions out of the box. I bought the 7.1:1 ratio to replace an aging (15+ years old) Quantum on my newest rod. The size difference alone was amazing, the feel took a little to get used to, but well worth it. It's butter smooth, lighter than my graphite framed Quantum, easier to palm, and best of all, it will be increasing my abilities overall. How? My old reel was so stiff (I didn't know it) that I couldn't pitch. I liked this reel so much, I went back and bought a 2nd a few days later in the 6.4:1 and another rod to go with it. I now have no need for a spinning rod for most of my bass fishing, as these reels are capable of casting weightless plastics without a problem. I'm only afraid I'll have to relearn how to cast now. Since I haven't actually put it to any hard use on the water (mainly because the water here is frozen) I couldn't give it 5 stars. I'll give an update after I've used them for a while. A:
This is a freshwater reel, if used in saltwater as you know you would need to throughly clean the reel after use. It is not recommended for saltwater.
