A:
Yes, well that is yes in that it can. It really depends more on the rod, line, lure and skill of the caster. If you are looking for a reel that is going to provide some additional casting distance over other standard reels I would recommend looking at a few of the new Ardent reels. They have a new feature that lets the reel guide move when the spool moves during drag, and that keeps bends out of the line and should in theory let you cast a little smoother/farther.

Do you engage all the brakes for everyday use....only the pitch brakes...only the brakes not marked "pitch"? The reel didn't come with a manual and the You Tube Abu Garcia videos on the subject don't help at all.

You dont need to engage the non-pitch blocks. They are spring loaded and will automatically come out and apply friction at high RPMs then retract once the RPMs drop. The only time you would want to turn on the pitch blocks is if you are pitching/flipping or casting in strong wind. Otherwise, just leave everything alone and they will do what they are designed to.

10 or 12 lb Excel is good for light line techniques like jerking or cranking. 14 for medium topwater, worming and jigging. For heavy stuff 17 or 20 fluro and 50 or 65 lb braid for frogging or slop fishing. So choosing one line that will do it all is almost impossible now a days with all the lures we use.

I use 12lb seaguar fluorocarbon but it really depends on the type of fishing you do. I think 12lb is a good all around pound test rating and I like no stretch.

You can fine tune the control for your weater conditions and it works gret... I use it on my pitching rod and I get better distance than the 200 dollar reels I have.

The breaking is excellent! It has a centrifugal break to help control the spool RPM at the beginning of a cast, but you will still need to dial in the spool tensioner and have an educated thumb to control the end of the cast. This reel very rarely backlashes on me, and when it does, it's usually the result of my own error in not dialing in the tensioner after changing baits.

This reel cast great is has 6 breaking pins that can be adjusted for casting conditions. That should work well for you if you've used casting reels before. Great reel I'm buying more if I need to in the future.
