Priced right for what you get. Dependable reel with a bait clicker. Garcia needs to work on the bait clicker switch so that it is easier to activate or deactivate.
Casts great. I have two other ambassador reels. One is ttwenty five years old. I just put a level wind gear and pawl in this one. The other is a 5500C3. Had it for 15 years. Can't beat these reels for durability.

I purchased a 5600BCX combo package last winter and have been using it for muskie fishing since. It is spooled with 50lb braided Spiderwire. This is my first baitcaster and I'm glad I went with it.
Pros:
- Casts a country mile when dialed in.
- Easy to use
- Holds a good amount of heavy line.
- Able to pull in 30lb+ muskie with ease.
- Looks great!
- Inexpensive
Cons:
- Needs oiled and cleaned often. If you have a rough return or short casting, take it apart and clean/oil it. I'd do this before even using it the first time.
- Lots of plastic interior parts.
- Drag disks were installed BACKWARDS from the factory. They were installed like this )(, take them out and install ( ) that way. Very easy fix though.
Overall I rated this product a 4/5. It would take higher quality parts and proper assembly to reach a 5 star for me. I've recommended this to many people. It tosses 3oz lures with ease all day.
P.S. The Abu Garcia pole that came with my combo is a great one too!

The bcx is a nice reel for the price i've caught a lot of nice fish with it. I have got my money out of this reel plenty of times, keep up the good work.

This company ponds out great fishing reels no questions about that, but this/ these ones with the push button that close to the spool are not good. I had the other ones with the smaller release button. Those gave me no trouble what so ever. Then I got this one and I had quite a few back lashes( and yes ik how to use these reels) and I've been using these reels for 10 years now. The difference between these and the older ones are not even close. I'd recommend this modle of u are used to the smaller bass fishing reels. If you aren't then DO Not get these cheep, plastic release button reels.

Depends on what size you are fishing for. If you and planning on catching sharks 3 feet and under this reel could work for you but if you are planning on catching much bigger ones I would looking into some PENN reels.

Yes, it cast good with 3 oz of weight. I've even used 2 oz bank sinkers and it still casts pretty good. You may have to loosen the spool tension knob on the side to allow it to cast further depending on the amount of weight you're trying to cast.

I would like to get the right size reel, but was also wondering if it would be good for fishing deep crankbaits for largemouth. is the smallest size reel the one i need? i would fish this on a wright and mcgill rick clunn rod that is 7'8 long.Answers

I bass fish with the 6600 bcx, and I love it...A:Â
This reel has a lot of cranking power but has a slow retrieve. A better option is the abu garcia black max, its about the same price and has a faster gear ratio to help get those crank baits down deep. I have a black max and love it the casting controls are great for the such an affordable reel.Q:Â

I throw 3/8 oz bait's and it will throw a country mile with 40lb braid (stren) or 30lb fireline, it throw better than my revo'sA:Â
Your anti backlash control is your thumb. Ihave cast a little as 1/4 ounce with Ambassador reels on a med action rod and 12 pound test line. If you need a magnetic backlash control this is not the reel model for you.A:Â
Anything below 1/4oz is difficult to get any kind of control or distance. With a light weight lure I've had MORE backlash than with excessively heavy lures (3oz+).Backlash control isn't great. Always keep your thumb on the reel and continually check your drag. Otherwise backlash central.

The reels (both the 5600 and the 6600) have great antibacklash control. For the 5600, it needs at least1/2 or 3/4 oz to cast. The 6600 needs a little more, about 3/4-1oz to cast.A:Â
The stiffness of your rod has a lot to do with it. if your rod is to whippy you can get alot of back lashes. I use the 6600 as a heaving reel (casting 5 oz lead plus bait) and can let this reel roll all the way till the bait hits the water. The 5600 i use for bass fishing with sufix 17lbs line and casting a texas rigged worm with an 1/8th oz sinker is no problem.Details:Â

I would invest in a spinning outfit, My preference is a pfleuger president , I use the 6930 for crappie and the 6940 for bass, jmoA:Â
This not a reel i would pick for light lures it doesnt have a great spool brake. The black max or the silver max are a better options for smaller lures because of the magnetic braking, but still have great power and are similarly pricedA:Â
I used 1/4 punce weights with 6 inch worms with my Ambassador Five and 5500 C3 with no difficulties. New, these reels need a little time for break in but are absolutely dependable. The five is used as my jig reel on a seven foot heavy pole with 1/2 0r 3/4 ounce jigs in heavy cover.A:Â
In my opinion, no. I use it for jigging up deep lakers because it has good line capacity and durability. I would not list finesse or casting ability among its strengths.A:Â

That is a little light, especially for the 6600. I personally use 6' 6" medium heavy action rod for the 5600. Don't underestimate the 5600, it is a very strong reel. So I wouldn't put either reel on a medium action rod. But if you insist on pairing up a BCX reel with a medium action rod, choose the 5600A:Â

I have the 5600BCX paired with a 6'6" UglyStik med. action rod and the balance is great, very easy to use setup, but I also have a Ambassadeur 6600C4 on a 7'3" Abu Garcia Veritas medium/heavy rod and it feels great. Being that the 6600 is slightly larger, in my opinion it would be more suited and on a 7'-7'6" medium-medium/heavy rod. But it all comes down to the type of fishing you're doing and the setup that feels right to you.Details:Â

Yes but I think it can handle more than that. The reel is very strong.

I do not see why you would not be able to use for Porgy Fishing. Just remeber when using a conventional reel (not a spinning reel), keep your thumb on the spool to avoid tangles as you let your line to the bottom.Details:Â

I would put at least that big if it was me, probably with 50lb braid... . I don't like 5601 for salt water I would go with the 6601, JMOA:Â
15 pound test is what i have on my 5600. it gives you plenty of strenght and line capacity. ive caught tons of blue fish flounder and sting rays with my 5600 matched with a bass pro shops graghite series 7' mh action rodA:Â
yes but, i personaly use 20 lb power pro braid in moss green.A:Â
15# test line would be okay on the 5601 BCX. Only drawback would be it won't hold as much line as a it would a smaller line. Will work well for you though.Details:Â

well when i use my freshwater reels in saltwater i always wash it out the spool and gears to get the corrosive salt out
