Abu Garcia Ambassadeur SX Baitcast Reel
i hadnt been fishing in about 5-7 yrs, me and my girlfriend were at bass pro shops visiting for the first time, i had asked the fishing consultants there which reel that has a line guide that will go back and forth when you cast, the lady pointed out to me abu garcia, my girlfriend bought me one and i picked out the rod, first time out with a lure and light as a 1/4 oz, i was able to cast into the wind and still reach at least 30 feet out, thats very impressive for a bait caster and going into the wind, and i mean wind like its making white caps on the water. i definitely will be getting more of these reels and have committed reels.

Great reel for the Price!!
My Abu Garcia Black Max finally bit the dust, it was over 8 years old and the anti reverse bit the dust. Wanted a nice baitcaster to replace it but didn't want to go over the $100 threshold. Considered the Abu C3 but didn't want to spend that money as I mostly fish saltwater. Well I'm definitely glad I stuck to my guns. The SX is super smooth, cast a mile once you have it dialed in and handles big fish with ease. I unexpectedly hooked up with a 8lb snakehead and this reel handled it with ease. I have it paired with a 7 MH star casting rod and this combo is a rock star! I only used Abu Garcia and Shimano reels and Abu out did themselves with this smooth and super affordable reel! You can handle all Florida freshwater species and some light inshore with this reel. Just a nice all around reel!

I bought this reel looking for a more inexpensive baitcasting option for catfishing. I got the largest size (its important to note as I see this a lot the largest sized abu garcia round reels have the bait clicker and only the largest) and with 30 pound braid it casted just fine never had an issue. The clutch engaged and disengaged just fine even uner loads and many decent sized fish where landed. For the cost its not a bad reel at all and if you want your first bait caster this could be an option. Pair it with a catfish rod med/hev ugly stick and your in buisness for big cats.
However, the bait clicker design is much different then the c3 and c4 and uses a tiny spring so the first night out it broke. I picked up a few of the springs off ebay for almost nothing and went through a few bags before I took it back and upgraded to the C3. You should never cast with a clicker on as it wont cast well at all because of the resistence and you dont need to reel in with it either as its just waring out parts but to have it brake with a fish running? thats just crazy. And to have it brake a few times over the course of a month was just not cool with me.
Also, the drag is not the carbon fiber drag that is used in the c3 and up reels and although you can find aftermarket parts for this to upgrade it you really want that carbon drag with big cats. Not 6 pound big like 36 pound big. IF your using braid you really want a smooth drag since you losea lot of the flex that mono has.
Overall, its a good reel with a good price point but has a bad bait clicker design and old technology in the drag.

Get a higher level reel. Second trip out started making noises and the protector on the thumb bar fell off. Also no clicker for soaking mullet.
