Built on the rock solid fundamentals that have made this series so popular for so long, the new C3 focuses on improved casting performance, while still maintaining the same durability and dependability that has made it legendary. The venerable Abu Garcia C3 round baitcasting reels have undergone a slow transformation over the decades—and while each new model retains its proven, bulletproof power and performance, it also adds carefully considered touches that make it stronger, lighter, more efficient, and smoother. The benefits of this Abu Garcia® Ambassadeur® C3 Classic Round Baitcast Reel include a 25% lighter spool design, a 65% lighter aluminum line guide, a bent star and handle for more efficient retrieves and more manageable fish fights. The Duragear brass gearing adds even more durability to a reel that is virtually indestructible, and the ever popular 5.3:1 gear ratio, linked to the more efficient bent handle and drag star, lets you muscle in even the biggest scaly warriors. Appropriate for a huge variety of gamefish, including bass, striper, catfish, walleye, pike, muskie, lake trout, salmon, snook, redfish, and more.

John Deer Tough i have several several Abu Garcia reels,7 to be exact. 3 for big river catfish 6500's ... also have a 4600C4 , FLW 5500HCL with 6:3-1, and a 5500C3 and 4600C3 for Bass fishin'... my go to reels are the 4600C3 and 5500C3 both on Bionic Blades and the 5500HCL for buzzin... have had the 4600C3 and 5500C3 for 10 years and still work and look like new and i fish a lot...my routine maintenance has been less than stellar and they still work flawlessly ..need i say more? Exceptional design and function Have owned and used a 5500C for decades. Casts beautifully. Cranks in deep diving baits and hard fighting fish with authority. The drag is smooth as silk regardless of the setting. Well made to exacting tolerances. Just purchased my second, but much newer, C3-5500. I had down both reels to grandchildren many years from now. I expect the reels will still be performing as well as the day purchased. October 3, 2014
Excellent reel! I bought two of these reels a couple of months ago. I love them. They are smooth casting. It will cast as far as I can throw it. The retrieve is so smooth. It's not heavy, feels very solid and durable. You can put a ton of line on it. This is my first reel with a bait clicker. I never knew how much I would really like that part of it. I will be buying two more in the near future. September 19, 2014
the best this is the best reel ever. iv caught some nice fish with this reel. ive caught bass catfish in the 10 pound range and some big carp. and theirs been the occasional snapping turtle and the one huge soft-shell turtle like 20 pounds. December 22, 2014

A:
The frames are different sizes. They are the same diameter on the side but the 6500 is wider from end to end.
I have the 6500 and it is still easy to handle.

A:
Line capacity and width are the differences. The 6500 holds more and is slightly wider.

A:
This depends. Freshwater will not be much of a problem. Saltwater with salt and sand getting in the line will cause more wear over time. In the grand scheme of things not cleaning and caring for the reel will cause a problem before the line guide is an issue.
