Rated 4 out of 5 by So glad I didn't listen!!! Some of my saltwater fishing buddies told me that I would not be satisfied using a baitcast reel. I did my online research about baitcast reels and found the Abu Garcia 7000C3i through Bass Pro Shop. With a little practice in my yard and some tutorial videos found on Youtube, I had the hang of it! This past weekend I fished the Indian River Inlet, Delaware. The Abu Garcia gave me the distance that I didn't have before. There were a few birds nests, but this is to be expected. I'm really glad I trusted my instincts and purchased this reel. DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE BAITCASTER!!!!!!!! May 11, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome I have put this reel through quite a bit since having it. It can handle anything under 200pds except tuna( not sure it won't blow up) I've caught 5 foot sharks, no problem. Still going strong. Have 80 pd spiderwire topshotted(is that a word??) with 50 pd backwater country by Ande. Love it! The clicker sticks sometimes but just engage the hanlde and it snaps in place. May 4, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT reel I have this reel paired up on a 12 ft St. Croix Mojo Surf Rod and ABSOLUTELY love it!!!! holds a tremendous amount of line, i have 30 lb line with a 50 lb leader and can easily cast 80 to 90 yards with 4 ounces. Great reel, smooth, no backlash, deftinately reccommend to everyone! May 2, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by My Favorite Catfish Reel I fish for big nasty mean Flathead Catifsh all summer long and the 7000 is my favorite reel bar none. From the dependable drag to quality components, I know that when trophy bites I'll be ready for it. Keep this reel clean and it will last a lifetime. January 27, 2011

China! If this was made in sweden it would be a $500+ Reel. But when checking the real out I noticed it feels the same as any reel made in America or Japan, as the Shimano's!

I currently have mine loaded with 30lbs braid and I have about 550yards on it. I didnt wanna max out the reel as Ive noticed on other conventional baitcasters the fuller the spool the better chance of backlash!

Brake knobs

Details:
I noticed there is a knob on the left and right side plates. Are they both brake adjustment knobs? How do they work together?

I noticed they are for spool tension, however the one of the left side of the reel is more of the centrifugal control. and the handle side if more of a lubrication point.

I was a bit concerned about if reel could cast lighter lures like a bucktail or small twitchbait. I would be using it for musky.

Answer this Question

Answers

A:
Remember the heavier the line he heavier the lure needed to cast it,however, if using a light bait you can compensate by spooling your reel with braid, its casts better then mono with the larger diameter. However with this reel id stick to 1 oz. to 3 oz. as with mono it takes a considerable effort to move the line off the spool.

I want to purchase this reel for muskie fishing, but I thought the gear ratio might be a little slow, espesially for lures like cowgirls, since I'm used to fishing with a 6.4 to 1 gear ratio.

Answer this Question

Answers

A:
Think of the lower gear ratio as more of a "winch" design it gives more torque for fighting larger fish. The slower the retrieve the less strain on your line of choice. I know when bass fishing a 6.4:1 - 7.1:1 is the ratio of choice because they are as hefty!

Yes I think it is.
If you want a bit faster like in the five's try the Revo Toro Winch or just the regular Toro 50 series but it would cost more money for the two
